Why has the student, who is both the victim and a minor, been identified by name, while the perpetrator has been allowed to remain anonymous?

Interesting little snippet in Mormon history is that they were quite friendly to both Catholics and Jews. Possibly, the theory goes, because they saw them as fellow outcasts.

In Nauvoo, Illinois, last area they lived before the exodus to Utah, church property, where possible, was sold to a Catholic order for a song. They may have also been the first denomination outside the Mormon church to build a worship center in Salt Lake City, the cathedral which is just a few blocks east of Temple Square.

They were also the second state (after Idaho) to elect a Jewish governor in the World War I era. There is also a large synagogue not far from Temple Square, world headquarters of the Mormon faith.

That area of Utah is 93% Mormon.

Even if you’re not Catholic how would you not know what Ash Wednesday is?

Seriously? I’m not muslim. Am I supposed to know what Ramadan is? I’m not Jewish. Am I supposed to know what Rosh Hashanah is?

...both the commentators (CNN) on the split screen had ash crosses marked on their foreheads.

And what are the odds that both are ardent and strident advocates of abortion on demand?

Damned hypocrites, one and all.

As far as I know, young girls wear their scarves in school. It's the spaghetti strainer nutsos that get me.

No witches in schools?

I saw what you did there. If you don’t eat your meat, you cannot have any pudding!

Had a young trainee, just out of school, very Italian.

Returning from lunch, walking down the sidewalk, he asks what is with the marks on the forehead! Is it some kind of cult around here?

He knew nothing of Ash Wednesday.
Nothing at all.
No religious affiliation.

A bit of education will go a long way. Bet you the teacher knows what Kwanzaa is.

I’m Catholic and I didn’t know there were any there.

Quite a few, actually. The Catholic presence has been growing quite fast. There's a cathedral in Salt Lake, I know.

The Mormons I know there don't seem particularly anti-Catholic. But maybe they wouldn't, around me . . .

Seriously, in the country at large, a big swath of Mormons view serious Catholics as allies in the culture war.

We lived in Utah for eighteen years and when we lived there most Mormons we knew were totally unfamiliar with Lent and had no idea what it was. Several times I had to explain the meaning of Good Friday to some neighbors. Ash Wednesday would be the same. This school was in Bountiful and Bountiful was always over 90%Mormon. This teacher made a huge mistake but I would imagine it was more out of ignorance than maliciousness.

The other thing to ponder is that just a few years ago, this would have been local news and handle locally. Now it is national/world news and everyone has an opinion and is offended...…………………….

Born in Italy, parents emigrated here when he was young.
He was from Naperville Il. (A Chicago suburb).

That was thirty some years ago and I still kid him about it.

A great guy, fast learner, but somehow he had zero religious training?

If he had just said it was a Mohammedan sign, he’d have been in the clear. Still, that would be a form of denying Christ too.

What the H is wrong with these idiots?
