Just seeing this here. Sympathy to his family, by all accounts he was a very good man.

Strokes are truly a roll of the dice. Some people have them and recover fully, some mostly recover, some barely recover and some like Perry never make it.

It all depends on where the bleed happens, what gets damaged and how long before you get to the hospital. If you are by yourself and pass out, it’s probably all over.

RIP.

Liked him in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and his hosting of a 1993 SNL was good.

Surprised to hear this... just assumed he’d survive the stroke.

Rest in peace, Mr. Perry.

I recall Johnny Olson had one (the game show announcer and at age 75). The account that I read was that people figured that he must have sensed some sort of problem when he was driving back to his place in Los Angeles from LAX (after some time off at his West Virginia home) and pulled over near a hospital. They found him unconscious at the wheel and never regained it before passing on two or three days later.

Saw some pictures of him and his daughter that he doted on that gave me a special wish for his child.

This is very young to have a stroke and die from it. I wonder if it will come out what his diet was. I know many will say "none of my business" but I think it will be instructive to know if Luke had a typical American high-sugar diet consisting of a lot of processed foods and fast foods.

I've been reading a lot of books on how high-sugar diet contributes all kinds of "western diseases" such as diabetes, heart disease, strokes, hypertension, obesity, cancers and even tooth decay.

Perhaps we could all learn from this. I know one thing, we cannot depend on government "food pyramids" and other nonsense.

Since eliminating added sugars from my diet (mostly from processed foods) and focusing on whole, natural foods, I've felt a lot better. I sleep better and have more energy.

I know genetics have something to do with it but looking at the recents pics of him, he looked much older than 52. He looked like someone in their late 50s to early 60s

Also he may have been on a “low-carb” diet resulting in huge intake of artery clogging fats. So many strokes coming off these bacon and egg diets these death. Total death trap.

Either way, would be instructive to note.

However, no reputable low-carb diet would advocate "bacon and eggs" only. A decent low-carb diet would also include a lot of salads, vegetables, berries, nuts, yogurt, fish, etc.
