Dems unleash sprawling probe of Trump family, administration
The Hill ^ | 03/04/2019 | OLIVIA BEAVERS AND MORGAN CHALFANT

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee unleashed a sprawling probe of President Trump's family, campaign and administration on Monday, that includes more than 80 requests for documents from associates of the president.

Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Judiciary Democrats are expanding their probes into the president’s inner circle and family, as well as individuals involved in the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting; plans to build a Trump property in Moscow; and a scheme to pay off women to alleged affairs with Trump before the 2016 election.

Less than a week after the president’s former attorney Michael Cohen delivered explosive public testimony against him on Capitol Hill, Nadler rolled out the expansive investigation that will focus on three key areas: obstruction of justice, public corruption and abuses of power.

In a statement, Nadler accused Trump of evading “accountability for his near-daily attacks on our basic legal, ethical, and constitutional rules and norms.”

“Investigating these threats to the rule of law is an obligation of Congress and a core function of the House Judiciary Committee,” Nadler said. “We have seen the damage done to our democratic institutions in the two years that the Congress refused to conduct responsible oversight. Congress must provide a check on abuses of power.”

The committee is demanding a trove of documents from the White House, including those related to the removal of former national security adviser Michael Flynn; the termination of former FBI Director James Comey; and any conversations about the removal of special counsel Robert Mueller.

The committee is also asking for documents from a slew of current and former White House and administration officials, including Flynn; Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner; former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus; former White House communications director Hope Hicks; and former White House counsel Don McGahn.

Hiding.
The GOP-e Leadership was involved in FISA.
For sure McCain, most likely Ryan, Turtle and Linda.
The information was passed from the CIA to the Bush Family and they told the GOP leadership.

This is where the “Trump is not an acceptable candidate” mantra started.

The one silver lining is that they are spending so much energy on ths that I don’t see them being able to legislate diddly squat.

Without the Senate, the democrats have no way to legislate anything. So all they can do to try and placate their far left wing base is investigate President Trump.

if they go through all of this noisy and expensive hoopla, which harms the country, and find NOTHING, they will look like the corrupt power-hungry fools they are

But this is just endless.

Mueller was supposed to look into Russian collusion into the 2016 election.

He looked into Trump's family, his business, his friends, and his associates. He indicted people for paperwork crimes made before Trump started his campaign. Mueller broke attorney-client privilege by raising Cohen's office and looking at confidential files related to Trump. Mueller investigated Trump's relationships with women from long ago.

And after more than 2 years of investigation -- tens of millions of dollars, almost two dozen attorneys -- after all that, Mueller has found NOTHING. Trump is the cleanest man on the face of the Earth.

And the conclusion: We need to BROADEN the investigation.

These people need to dealt with.

Proudly, I’m sure, they are likely responsible for the 360 point drop in the Dow, this morning as well. What to do? What to do?

Do a search on disgusting schmuck politicians and you get Nadler. This fat slob epitomizes the nasty rat debris of today’s party.

I agree with you - I’m just trying to look down the road and see a bright side, perhaps even some divine intervention in the result. The dems are beyond contempt. They are evil and will stop at nothing to get control, despite what the American voter has said.

I am surprised that someone can be raked over the coals like this when there is NOTHING to suggest a crime has taken place.

Well that is literally accurate. But frankly, I haven’t seen any push back from the patriots of this country. We should have been in the streets during the Clinton exoneration, we weren’t and they know we are weak, so they will push us to the end.

I’d fight ANY request for documents with litigation

Abuse of power, probable cause, due process, equal protection

Congressional fishing expeditions esp those aimed at embarrassing or removing from office, a President and his family and associates is NOT Constitutional.

Due process means fundamentally fair, an applies to Congress

Fight these bastards . . . Noncompliance Civil disobedience Worse than anything McCarthy ever did

What new information would possibly make Trump supporters re-think their support? I cannot think of anything. What if they proved Trump lied repeatedly about business dealings in Russia with potential for large cash payments from Putin to Trump that were going on during the campaign and even into the start of the Trump administration? I’m not sure even that would move people.

You sound disappointed.

Anyone who is in anyway associated with President Trump or his campaign would have to be insane not to plead the 5th if subpoenaed to testify before Congress or questioned by the FBI.

Testifying or even answering questions is now a sure fire way for any Trump associate to get indicted. Just ask George Papadopoulos, Rick Gates, Michael Flynn, Alex van der Zwaan and Roger Stone.
