MUNICH (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Mike Pence rebuked European powers over Iran and Venezuela on Saturday in a renewed attack on Washingtons traditional allies, rejecting a call by Germanys chancellor to include Russia in global cooperation efforts.
In speeches and in private talks at the Munich Security Conference, Pence and Chancellor Angela Merkel laid out competing visions for how the West should address world crises. ...

Easy fix: Abandon the bases in Germany and move them to Poland.
Ivanka is only due praise insofar as she outwardly backs her father’s presidency.
That from within she is pulling it to the left every chance she gets — and is responsible for Kushner being in there mucking everything up while also pulling to the left is indefensible.
Her general vapidity and constant insinuation into events involving world political and business powers is sickening.
As Churchill said of Germany: The Hun, he’s either at your throat or at your feet.
Merkel and Putin were in similar youth commi camps at the same age...
She is a snake. Cant believe the Germans still put up with her...
The French so far have understood.
And what the eff is a global effort?
It is a Venezuelian people EFFORT you effin globalist pompous disconnected btch
Yep. IF were going to stay in Europe at all we should certainly pull the troops out of Germany - which is obviously not an ally - and move them to Poland which is a real ally.
You don’t understand what they’ve been building for the past seventy years, then. There’s a reason why one of the purposes of NATO was to “keep the Germans down”.
Old Man Yells at Cloud.
Herr Merkel has the hots for Macron.
Germany and Russia working together. Where have I heard of that happening before? ...
Pence is not right. He is politicizing a purely commercial issue. The more supply of hydrocarbons the better for Europe. No Russian energy project prohibits similar projects by other players.
I see no problem with beating the Russians in a fair competition.
I guess you know it all. Whatever.
I think we should mind our own business. I really couldn’t care less what Europeans have planned for Europe. As long as we are smart enough to not get sucked into a European war again, we’ll be fine.
Those are interesting things to note, considering Merkel urging us to work closer with Russia.
You know what, I have urged pretty much the same thing over time. It’s her puddin head ideas and other actions that leave me not trusting her at all.
It has been my opinion that after the U. S. S. R. fell, the US didn’t do enough to become close friends. I don’t mean blindly, but with some insight and intelligence.
It was my take we made a massive mistake not having our president go to the memorial for Belsan in 2005. We could have shown a lot of sympathy and the Russian people would never have forgotten it.
We took a pass.
All nations like to feel important. Russia after being the U. S. S. R., was no different. We could have pulled them onto some inconsequential international boards. We could have given it’s leadership some props. Instead we seemed to relish it being in the dumps. That was a huge mistake.
It caused the leadership of Russia to drift apart from us. We made a big deal out of the U. S. S. R. folding, then failed to help it over the hump. I think some in Russia felt betrayed by that.
They in effect went Western, and what did we do? We cozened up to China, a Communist state, and left Russia flopping in the wind.
I’m never going to word this just right, but if folks try to think of the best way for us to avoid trouble down the road, it would have been to pull Russia closer, and be involved in it’s plans for the future.
We just abandoned that, and I think it was unfortunate.
Look, I don’t trust Putin any farther than I can drop kick him, but having a relationship is better than having him go off setting up alliances with nations like China against us.
I think we would have done better.
“the Russian people would never have forgotten it.”
I agree. I wouldn’t.
Lots of people could not have cared less what Europeans had planned for Europe in 1941 either. We did not “get sucked into a European war”Germany declared war on us.
A lot of what the USA is going through right now is directly the result of EU influence, take note.
I’m not pleased at some of the stuff she does either.
In the end, he is supervising her.
I’ve defended her in the past. She is doing things he has tasked her to do. Tossing out a bone in the form of supporting women globally, is going to play well in certain quarters.
As for polishing Merkel’s apple, I’m not a big fan. It’s what you do when you go abroad. She wouldn’t be the one to criticize her. Trump will do enough of that on his own IMO.
If Merkel gets kudos from an offshoot of the Executive Branch, it’s going to make it easier for her to swallow the main criticism when it comes.
I’m just providing an alternative thing to consider.
I didn’t like seeing her championing Merkel. I think Merkel has been a terrible leader.
Is that a good “I wouldn’t”, or do you think I’m off base there?
