Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a victory lap on Twitter Thursday over news that Amazon is scrapping its plan to build a new headquarters in Queens.
Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazons corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world, she tweeted.
The freshman Democratic lawmaker had been a vocal opponent of the deal to lure the online retail giant to Long Island City which wouldve given Amazon $3 billion in city and state subsidies in exchange for bringing a projected 25,000 jobs to the area.

Alexandria Chupacabra Cortez! I love it!
Hey AOC, do you tweet on an iPhone?
If bribery worked, NYS taxpayers wouldn’t be billions in the hole from all the bad deals.
"On June 15, 2017, Amazon.com announced it would acquire Whole Foods Market,[49][50] adding 400 physical stores to Amazon's e-commerce assets.[51] The purchase was valued at $13.7 billion, and caused Whole Foods stock prices to soar after the announcement was made.[52]"
"Whole Foods Market Inc. is an American supermarket chain which exclusively sells products free from artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, sweeteners and hydrogenated fats.[4] Being the only USDA Certified Organic grocer in the United States, the chain is popularly known for its organic selections.[5] It has 494 stores in North America and the United Kingdom.[2]"
Taco Rosado jumped on the bandwagon here. The real players were gay socialist city councilman Jimmy van Bramer and the relatively old school Dem State Senator Mike Giannaris. The community of LIC did not want this. It was a NIMBY reaction as locals feared a further influx of millenials whose shopping habits tend to organic markets, vegan restaurants and craft beer bars. Landlords looking to capitalize might raise rents on local businesses to get them to leave so hipster friendly businesses would replace them. All but the construction unions were opposed too, since the wildly social liberal Bezos’ company is anti union. And to be honest, though Amazon claims 25K jobs at an average of $150K, the possibility of fifteen or 20 seven figure salaries goes a very long way to upping the average salary
I think she doesn't like it because it involves a community benefiting from growth and success in the private sector, as opposed to government giveaways and forced ‘redistribution’. Leftist activists want to be the ones who are credited with ‘saving the people’.
“2.9 billion construction jobs supporting multiple industries”
People in the construction unions are not going to be happy about this. Some of these folks are not the kind that forgive and forget. $2.9 Billion means millions in the pocket of people of Italian decent that control the construction industry in NYC.
Demonic possession..........................
Even if that were the case, the government should collect taxes from some business, but favor others?
These tax incentives punish business that have been paying their fair share. It's like the guys who turns his back on a dutiful wive who has been supporting him and putting up with his cr@p for years, and then the fellow buys a big diamond necklace to the new floozy who showed up.
And as stupid as well - how often do we hear about taxpayers getting shafted when these businesses take off after sucking up the fat subsidies?
If you like welfare, then you like big taxpayer subsidies.
No free market person would like this.
Gotta give the communist horse-toothed nutbag some credit.
She's consistent.
Always against jobs, always for welfare.
Cheering jobs... leaving her district. Rich girls from the suburbs are bizarre
I want to see a recorded vote for AOC’S Green New Deal.
Mankind spent 5000 years to get out of living in caves and now Boston College Grad wants to go back.
Never fear...very soon there won't be any more companies left. Who can compete?
In my area, almost all the small jewelry shops, dress shops, gift shops, etc. are gone. Chains are about all that's left now...even for dinner out....the former multitudes of family-owned and operated restaurants are virtually all gone.
......and even many major retail chains are in trouble now....Sears, JCPenney's, etc.
....and I live in a prosperous, bustling, small-towns-type area.
Folks are doing shopping from home, loathe to go out any more, even for dinner or theaters at night.
Why should folks "go shopping" any more....an afternoon or evening at home is more delicious than going shopping in deserted downtowns or at half-empty malls.
Home movies, meals delivered to home, music systems mellowing the ears, computer games, TV sports....why go outside anywhere for anything today!
Just order anything in from Amazon.....and good "stuff" is delivered promptly. Front-door stoops are now the new malls of the masses....and Amazon is the retail Czar to fill your every need.
(...semi-sarcasm....I think.....)

Congrats to Virginia and Tennesee.
At this point, I am wondering just how hard AOCs fall to earth is going to be.
Yes. The Derp media has all things MAGA in its crosshairs.
FR is one.
True!
Don’t forget the “private sanitation” boys.
All the while Gov. Huomo is shifting blame to Trump for SALT limitations
LOL.....a three ring circus if there ever was one
Ohhhh no... they LOVE money. They love it so much they want all of yours.
