"And what about those companies in competition with Amazon who aren't getting subsidies?"

Never fear...very soon there won't be any more companies left. Who can compete?

In my area, almost all the small jewelry shops, dress shops, gift shops, etc. are gone. Chains are about all that's left now...even for dinner out....the former multitudes of family-owned and operated restaurants are virtually all gone.

......and even many major retail chains are in trouble now....Sears, JCPenney's, etc.

....and I live in a prosperous, bustling, small-towns-type area.

Folks are doing shopping from home, loathe to go out any more, even for dinner or theaters at night.

Why should folks "go shopping" any more....an afternoon or evening at home is more delicious than going shopping in deserted downtowns or at half-empty malls.

Home movies, meals delivered to home, music systems mellowing the ears, computer games, TV sports....why go outside anywhere for anything today!

Just order anything in from Amazon.....and good "stuff" is delivered promptly. Front-door stoops are now the new malls of the masses....and Amazon is the retail Czar to fill your every need.

(...semi-sarcasm....I think.....)

I thought restaurants were leaving because of the demographic changes in my town. Now I’m wondering if the dynamics you’re mentioning were at play also.
