"We are changing the size of the workforce to align with the revenue," says Jeanne Segal, McClatchy's director of public relations and communications.
This article is in addition to another one posted in August 2018. Doom and gloom in that one too. Kinda had me smiling anyway.
McClatchy Newspapers Lay Off Nearly 4 Percent of Staff in Cost-Cutting Move
Wow. So many media outlets are all cutting back. So will there be less propaganda available??? What will we do???
Washington Post tells us democracy dies in darkness. To them the dark days started with Trump becoming president.
I would love to hear the Post tell us, what Trump has done to restrict their ability to publish any damn thing they want.
Does democracy dies in darkness, or do liberal news organizations die when nobody is willing to pay for their pablum anymore?????
Gee. America seems to be realizing that their “We hate Trump at all costs, but Michelle Obama’s upper arms are FANTASTIC!” prose is wearing a bit thin.
I remember when pretty much every house on the block got the Fresno Bee. In time, as the divide between conservative and liberal came more into focus, people began cancelling. I was one of them. Now, it's only a couple of houses that have the Bee delivered. The liberals at McClatchy have only themselves to blame.
On November 30, 2016, legislators approved a measure within the National Defense Authorization Act to ask the U.S. State Department to take action against foreign propaganda through an interagency panel. The legislation authorized funding of $160 million over a two-year-period.
McDonalds is HIRING!
My opinion of partisanship of the Bee goes back decades. It seemed to me that no small mistake of a Republican couldn’t be made into a mountain, and no major mistake of a Democrat couldn’t be made into a molehill. Attack the right, cover for the left. May the McClatchy organization fade away soon.
Learn to code. LOL
The thing they never do when reducing workforce to align with revenue is look carefully at the degree to which a given member of the workforce contributes to the production of the revenue. That usually results in additional revenue reduction that exceeds the savings and you get a death spiral.
I watched a company one time that kept laying off its revenue producers while simultaneously increasing expenses for office remodeling for its new, non-revenue producing executives. We used to kid that the day would come when they’d finally laid off everyone who was producing revenue for them, and it’d take them six months to notice the money had stopped coming in. And that’s pretty much what happened. Pretty nice furniture in those executive offices, though. Picked up a few pieces at the bankruptcy sale.
Awwwwwww, that’s so sad.
Ditto!
There seems to be a lot of openings for drivers to deliver food from restaurants too!
LOL!!!!
A tale told true of a "silver lining."
Who would have thought that propaganda doesn’t sell in a free country? Amazing, right?
Get woke, Go broke!
I remember when Sacramento had two newspapers: The Sacramento Union which was conservative and the Sacramento Bee which was liberal. McClatchy HQ is in Sacramento. The Sac Bee devoured the Union. What goes around comes around.
Same in Dallas: We had The Morning News, which was conservative and the Times Herald which was more liberal.
I think millennials would freak when we tell them about the days when there were two newspapers in a market.
Both my sister and I had paper routes. My sister delivered the Union and I delivered the Bee. Both of the routes included our home in our route area. Of course, I had twice as many customers and three times the route size that she did. I didn’t mind delivering the paper every morning at 3a but I absolutely hated collecting from my customers every month.
I definitely haven’t lived a life of luxury. I’ve earned every penny I’ve ever had.
