The Cops Were the Aggressors in This Week's Deadly Houston Drug Raid
Reason ^ | 1-29-19 | Jacob Sullum

On Monday evening in Houston, a dozen armed men broke into the home of Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas, a middle-aged couple who had lived in the house at 7815 Harding Street for at least two decades. The first man through the door, who was armed with a shotgun, used it to kill one of the couple's dogs. Tuttle responded to the home invasion by grabbing a revolver and shooting the man with the shotgun, who collapsed on a sofa in the living room. As Nicholas tried to disarm the intruder, his accomplices shot her. Tuttle returned fire, and by the end of the shootout he and his wife were both dead. Four of the assailants were hit by gunfire, while a fifth injured his knee.

Acevedo said the plainclothes narcotics cops serving the warrant "announced themselves as Houston police officers while simultaneously breaching the front door."

I see two problems, right there.

Anybody who does those two things deserves to be shot. Act like a criminal, get shot down like a criminal.

“Guess Roger Stone and Mrs. Stone should be glad it was the fbi and not the hpd that popped them in the pre-dawn/near sunrise raid then? “

You trust Mueller’s hoods?

They don’t get to use their toys that way

I notice cops have no recordings of this alleged heroin buy

Usually they would have something besides the snitches word and product

There’s nothing peaceful about heroin. I don’t know the details and I hope this didn’t happen just on a tip.

“Two people are dead.”

They were collateral damage...the cops were really after the dog.

“People who knew the deceased are floored. They say it is just not possible.”

No different than a mama crying on the TV news claiming that their son was a good boy, went to church, and was getting ready for college.

I’m wondering if some of the cops where hit by friendly fire. This guy supposedly had a .357 revolver, so six shots and he manages to hit four cops?

“Answer: Don’t sell drugs.”

Looks like you missed the part where no drugs were found.

“If true, should have been enough for an arrest warrant that could have been served away from the home and followed up with a search warrant when there were fewer people in the house.”

But if they did it that way there would be less opportunity for the cops to kill dogs and people and they don’t like that.

“If police officers don’t want to be portrayed as the enemy, they should stop acting like the enemy.”

The money quote.

We have about 4x the number of cops than what would be tolerated by a free society.

“Was there any indication that a normal search warrant including request for entry would be met with force?”

For some reason cops don’t like those.

Police had a legitimate warrant and were shot at while entering the premises.

Those that aren't criminals usually don't start shooting at police if they are lawfully entering one's home.

Moral of the story: Don't shoot at police if they have the legal right to search your premises.

One of several conflicting stories that have come out of the HPD. Pick the story you like, and run with it.

“Undercover HPD claims to have bought heroin at the house.”

Are you sure? I thought they claimed it was “near the house”.

I agree and in post 25, said something similar. It seems that the days of LEO treating people as .... well, people instead of targets, has passed us by.

why NOT just pick them up when they go to the grocery?

A three car traffic stop with unmarked vehicles? hold ‘em and then execute the warrant

I agree 100%!
