A Virginia lawmaker sent an email to her constituents Wednesday night apologizing for attaching her name to a controversial abortion bill without reading it closely enough.
In a newsletter, Del. Dawn Adams, D-Richmond, said she "did not exercise due diligence" before co-sponsoring the abortion legislation with Del. Kathy Tran, D-Fairfax. Tran became the focus of a social media firestorm this week after Republicans circulated video of her saying the bill would allow abortions up until the moment of birth if one doctor certified that the mother's physical or mental health was at risk.
"I made a mistake, and all I know to do is to admit it, tell the truth, and let the chips fall where they may," said Adams, a first-term delegate who won a close upset victory in 2017 in her suburban district and could face a competitive re-election campaign this year.

She should be defeated when she runs because of her inability to do her job. Being a legislator means having to read bills...especially if you are co-sponsoring them.
This bill is disgusting but it’s already law in New York state. I can see how women might want to be convinced that up to a certain point they aren’t really carrying a baby yet - just developmental tissue they tell themselves - and so abortion is just a medical procedure, soothes the conscience and gives them guilt free options. But how can they convince themselves that an abortion in the delivery room is anything other than straight up murder? Yet, no outcry.
[I dont believe she didnt know what was in the bill.]
Neither do I. I think she’s a typical lying Democrat.
What IDIOT sponsors a bill they have not read??
Well, yeah. But...
not reading a bill one sponsors!
She trusted, and trusts, the wrong people.
Unless the words "life threatening" or something similar are present, "at risk" can mean practically anything.
"Oh wait, it's murdering babies in the delivery room? Whoa, we weren't supposed to go that far yet. Shoot, can I take my name off it?"
Either that or she heard the blowback her co-sponsor got and said "I don't need that, I'll say I didn't know what it said."
Either way, she's either a monster or a puppet that can be used to facilitate monsters. Pick your poison.
She’s a Democrat, she still hates babies.
“I was elected to lead, not to read.” - “President” Schwarzenegger
You can’t be that stupid.
My feeling too, although I think she should certainly have read the bill before voting on it. But at least she admitted she was wrong.
The video of Tran being questioned was great, btw, especially the part where she is forced to admit that, yes, you could kill that baby even while it was crowning. And that a baby born alive could also be killed if the mother or others didnt feel it should live.
I honestly feel as if I have fallen into an alternate universe. Evil and cruelty seem to reign supreme in this one.
Sarcasm noted.
Procrastinating isn’t a crime. I say it’s ok to abort your kids until their age ends in “een”, you know like thirteen, fourteen, etc....
New York beat them by a few days. Cuomo and Hillary wrote that bill together.
I agree. Shes a nurse. I think she knew what was in the bill she was on-sponsoring. What she did not know, what she failed to do her due-diligence on, was how the public would react.
Don’t feel bad, dear. Democrats are notorious for passing legislation without reading it.
But consistent. They did the same thing with Obamacare by Pelosi saying they had to pass it to find out what was in it. Same person in charge of her party, same stupidity.

"You mean I'm supposed to be able to read a bill I say I support? All I heard is 'baby killing' but didn't know that meant killing babies!"
