Scoop: Trump mused about "military option" in Venezuela with Graham
Axios ^ | 27 January 2019 | Jonathan Swan

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham told me that as recently as a couple of weeks ago Trump mused to him about the possibility of using military force in Venezuela, where the U.S. government is currently pushing for regime change using diplomatic and economic pressures.

What happened: Graham, recalling his conversation with Trump, said: "He [Trump] said, 'What do you think about using military force?' and I said, 'Well, you need to go slow on that, that could be problematic.' And he said, 'Well, I'm surprised, you want to invade everybody.'"

Graham laughed. "And I said, 'I don't want to invade everybody, I only want to use the military when our national security interests are threatened.'"

"Trump's really hawkish" on Venezuela, the hawkish Graham added in a phone interview on Sunday afternoon, adding that Trump was even more hawkish than he was on Venezuela.

I don’t think Russian control of the Gulf is an issue nor its navy a threat.

https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/why-russian-navy-could-be-serious-trouble-35592

The PLAN is no more worrisome than the Russians, at least far from their home bases. Also projecting power across the Pacific whether it is around the horn or through the Panama Canal is pretty much impossible for a navy like the PLAN.

I think Russian and Chinese bases are simply excuses.

So, not one life. Not one dollar.

Maybe send a Democrat Congressional delegation and some NBC reporters.

Just to check things out .

Forget Blackhawk Down, remember The Bay of Pigs for a more psychologically and ethnic valid scenario. And it even had the Russians in our backyard.

General rule: Nobody likes foreign troops invading their country.
Does that include Cubans?
"My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators."--Dick Cheney on Iraq, Meet the Press, 3/16/02
. . . and that did in fact prove true. Welcomed by some as liberators. But detested by the Hussein regime, which had a secret police cum terrorist infrastructure in place.

The question is whether the commies can sustain a terror campaign which would exhaust the democratic republicans.

You understand, I’m sure, that the American Revolution was conducted by 1/3 of Americans with the help of the French government, against the British and the 1/3 of Americans who were Tories. The other 1/3 of Americans were on the sidelines.

If in fact Venezuelans have lost a lot of weight and are starving, it should be easy to get at least half of them on board just with plentiful free cheese. There are probably enough able-bodied Venezuelans out-of-country to do the Bay of Pigs right, with American air power and smart bombs instead of JFK’s wimp out.

Those considerations are weighing on the minds of Maduro et. al. right now, or he wouldn't be so cautious about his initial declaration that the American Embassy personnel are persona non grata, in the face of blowback from the US Secretary of State. Best case, the US gets Maduro and his henchmen to go to exile, and the Cubans go back to Cuba. That wouldn’t be likely, tho, if the US took its options off the table.

On the subject of contract law, didn’t they seize or nationalize some of our oil company assets? Is that why we no longer would make loans? I don’t really know the answer, but this is surfacing in my 80 year old mind.

Especially since the Russian army is about 10% of the size it was in 1989.

But keep watching red dawn and drinking the bong water.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You do not have the privilege of putting words in my mouth.

You know the Russians do not work the way you suggest, do you not?

Tyhey set up training cadres in the areas of the country they want to control, like they did in Crimea and in Easterbn Ukraine, then they arm them with whatever they think is necessary, such as armor and air support, and artillary. If that effort starts to fail , ununiformed mercenarries are sent in for support. And then they wait and see whether their incremental plan is interfered with as it goes along. It certainly wasn’t interfered with in Ukraine of Crimea.

And this will be a test to see if the USA will allow the same incremental development in the Western Hemisphere. If it is allowed, then you willsee a repeat of incremental agressiojn.

Why should the Russians use their own troops when they can use Venezuelans, Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Bondurans? And once the Russians begin this effort, whats to keep them from eventually organizing even more caravans targeted on destabilizing and compromising our Southern border?

Modern warfare is fought with demographic invasion, at least in its beginning phases. And the Russians will soon begin their effort in Venezuela.

That’s why the Russians are caterwauling about Trump using the US military. The Russians are not ready yet. This caught them with their pants down but not for long. I suspect the Christians In Action have a hand in it, as usual.

We shall see over the next few weeks.

The Dems won’t like it. They’re good with using the military against countries who are our allies, or who should be our allies, but THEY CANNOT STAND the thought of using our military against our enemies, particularly Communists.

I don’t think they would mind. They would just flood Florida with Venezuelan “refugees” and turn the state blue for good.

Agreed. The Cold War is over. Neocons like Lindsay need to realize that. Venezuela is no threat to our national security. We don’t need a war with a collapsing state like Venezuela. Trump’s approach so far has been pretty good.

And imagine when that collateral damage is blowing up brown people. Yeah, that won’t blow up in our face like a loaded cigar.

Yeah, cuz true Patriots can see that Russian tends to gain control of the Caribbean with their massive Fleet. And station amphibious assault on the Gulf Coast. Don’t question my patriotism, Nip

My neighbors down at the end of the block went bankrupt. Word is, he had a gambling problem and made a lot of bad decisions. House went up as a foreclosure. It seems like his wife didn’t rise up and divorce him.

You know what I didn’t do? I didn’t kick down their front door, shoot the Dad, find them a new man to run their house, and pay all their bills.
Just like Jesus, sometimes I speak in parables.

“You do not have the privilege of putting words in my mouth.”

Of course I do. Where did you get the idea that there’s rules on the interwebs? I can judge you, ridicule you, and say that you have no clue what you’re talking about. And that you should quit watching Red Dawn and quit drinking the bong water

By the way Mr Moto, funny to be lectured about patriotism by someone flying a JAP flag on their page.

You do however understate things a bit. I had a neighbor who went bust too - he gambled his money away completely. Turns out the medication he was on had the side effect of inducing manic behavior . . .

That is one thing. Running a slave plantation is another.

"Trump's really hawkish" on Venezuela, the hawkish Graham added in a phone interview on Sunday afternoon, adding that Trump was even more hawkish than he was on Venezuela.
That might have been Graham speaking out of turn - or it might be what he and Trump agreed that Graham would say to put pressure on Maduro. As I said, the best case result does not happen without such.

Invading Venezuela is about like kicking down the door of someone in hospice and putting a bullet in their head. Unnecessary, and creates a lot of resentment.
I know it’s not as fun as a war, and all the hit movies we’ll get out of it, but all we need to do there is put out the word that we will ve very friendly to whoever overthrows the Venezuelan government.

No need to spend one Thin dime. Especially since we don’t have any dimes. I’m not sure I understand the wisdom of borrowing money from China to go invade Venezuela.

I think it was probably Trump baiting Linda. Look at that line where he says “you like to invade everybody”.

One thing I know for sure, if we fight inside Venezuela. Be ready for about 5 million Venezuelans to come pouring into the United States. Because every time we have a war, we import the people from there enmasse.

= = = = = = = = =
How about the RUSSIANS we imported because we wanted them out of Afghanistan.

So now WE are trying to get out of there.

If I remember correctly, we were against Russia into Afghanistan with the reminder it was a backwards nation with a corrupt Government(Hmmm), and its claim to fame was poppy for heroin etc etc.

Obama would be flying on Air Force One to go golfing, leaving his "wife" and "kids" behind -- unless they were on one of their all-expenses-paid junkets overseas.

I'm not sure about the loan end of it, but Venezuela did seize some of our oil company's assets.
