Winter. Looks like Punxsutawney Phil could possibly freeze his ‘nads off and become the transgendered Punxsutawney Phyllis.

[[”potentially record breaking push” of Arctic air will inundate the Northern Plains and Great Lakes by Wednesday, bringing wind chills as low as -40 degrees in many locations]]

Cripes- i fished on a lake all day long in -40 degree wind chill weather back in the 80’s- used to work outside wind howling at -30 all day- (course we’d break 2 hours or so for 10 minutes to get the chill out via kerosene salamander but still-)

Record breaking? Yeah ok-

I saw this movie. The flag freezes on the flag pole. And they have to burn books in the fireplace.

It's been a long time since the 'weatherman' was concerned about 'mild' reporting. When I was a kid in the 1950s, weather was weather and you dealt with it.

Now it's a competition to see which tv personality can add the most drama to whatever weather we are having.

I normally hate Armageddon weather reports. But this will be pretty bad. It was -19 yesterday here and calling for -27 on Wednesday. We’ve had it that cold before, but it’s out of the ordinary. The record all time is -27 and the low 15 temps all occurred in 1985 or before.

If you have not done all of this "prep" before hand you are a nitwit.

It gets cold up here in the winter.

And at these temps salt does not work.

We have sanded the paths that we will need to walk and hauled out the cleats.

All of this is a Direct Result of California’s Global Warming Solutions Act known as AB32 by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Obviously their plan was too radical and has Plunged America in to an Ice Age as a result of their Non Carbon -policies.

The entire Legislature should be held Criminally Liable for all the Death and Damage they caused with their over zealous plans to cool the planet, THIS IS GENOCIDE Perpetrated by California.

Another nice thing about all this global whining: when the temp drops below about 25, I'll put my case of Milwaukee's Best Ice on the porch and freeze more water out of it to get it to, say, 9% about ABV or so. That way, if I accidentally lock myself out of the house, I'll never feel it when I freeze to death. 🍺❄

I was discussing the winter of ‘83-’84 while out with some friends last night. That was a bad one. Tons of snow and a long brutal cold spell. If I remember correctly the temperature in the small town where I was going to school (Fairbury Ne.) only got above zero once in 22 days. The winds were very strong and the wind chills were in the -30 to -50 range. On Christmas morning 1983 it was -22 with a constant 35-40 mph wind when I headed out on the 26 mile drive to my home. I had a little Toyota Corolla and busted through snow drifts all the way home on the highway because the roads were drifting over. It was a miracle I didn’t get stuck and freeze to death. I was determined to get home for Christmas though.

I lived in an old house with a bunch of guys that year. The house was poorly insulated and didn’t have storm windows. I could see my breath in my bedroom when I woke up in the morning. My stepmom bought me an electric blanket that fall and that was a godsend. I had a brand new Die Hard battery so my car and one of my roommates cars were the only ones that would start. We had to jumpstart all the other guy’s cars every morning so they could get to school and work. Ahh good times......

Yesterday, 1/26/19, we had an air temp of -22 at 5:00 a.m. at the Moline, IL airport.

I didn't hear anything about "the Polar Vortex" until last night and how "it's coming".

The weather guys didn't forecast yesterday correctly and what they're saying is coming isn't as bad as what we had.

Just trying to scare the chit out of everyone again.

Notice the world doesn’t come to an end even though the temperature varies120 degrees or more in some areas of the nation, over the span of just one year?

So much for the drama of the mean temperature going up 1.5 degrees over a century.
