To his credit, National Review editor Rich Lowry has apologized more than once for his and the publications initial response to the flap at the Lincoln Memorial involving the kids from Covington Catholic. He has much to apologize for.
In his initial response, without any apparent fact checking, Lowry commended the knee-jerk mea culpa of the Covington diocese, tweeting, A necessary and appropriate apology.
In a later tweet, having seen just a little bit of the video, Lowry still felt obliged to condemn the obnoxious, dumb, and disrespectful behavior of the teens.
National Reviews deputy managing editor, Nicholas Frankovich, meanwhile weighed in with his own piece, grotesquely titled, The Covington Students Might as Well Have Just Spit on the Cross. In it Frankovich describes the boys as evil.

Went on one of their cruises. I would not do it again, especially considering the cost.
These Covington students are minors, just kids.
This slime rag perpetrated child abuse.
Propaganda will soon be able to result in death as our nation continues to morph into a draconian banana republic.
I hope Covington sues them out of business.
Millions in punitive damages.
They should do more than just apologize. They should be leading the attack so the leftist propagandist who initiated the event, the celebrities who made those brutal comments, and the press who inflamed the incident.
National Review is a snowflake rag.
I was a subscriber until last year. I should have quit it in ‘16 when that dude named French put himself up as an alternative to Trump in the election.
The never-Trumper editors are making their points to dwindling readers. The Donald himself was accurate when he said “nobody reads National Review.”
Maybe the editors would prefer President Kamala Harris?
I’d gladly punch Rich Lowry in the face, BJ offer or not.
Agree completely.
Sure, smart dude, but waaay too full of himself. And his TDS just gets old, along with Goldberg, Nordlinger, and a few others who just can't move on.
After MANY years I had to let my subscription lapse. Because I CAN move on.
Whatever. There are a couple good writers at National Review. The rest are the same out-of-date, ineffective squishes who think their job is to police the Right and write even-handed stories about even the most egregious attacks by the Left. The good ones should leave and NR should be put out of its misery.
It’s always been unreadable.
NR saw those evil MAGA hats and had to pile on. Other than NeverTrumpers who reads that dumpster fire anyway?
re: “I think Cashill is probably right about both flight 800”
I don’t.
I think Cashill, like a lot of other non-technical types doing books on subjects involving a lot of tech across diverse fields fails in being objective and rather rides his favorite pony to a conclusion HE desires.
It just reaffirms how out of touch the average GOP hack really is with main street.
I didn't but have read bits and pieces of it as well as articles Jack has written based on it.
While Jack's conclusion may be incorrect, my take on him is that he is an honest broker and wouldn't do an investigation to prove a point.
He strikes me as a good investigator who was seeking the truth and would go wherever his investigation led.
It is usually Liberal scientists and investigators who conduct the kind of pseudoscience you are describing wherein their starting point is a position congruent with their ideology and their analysis is conducted NOT to find the truth but purely and only as a means of proving their previously held position.
I realize it is still early and we all may need more caffeine, but you are conflating at least two separate points in that statement.
It is true that non-technical types may make errors in the analysis of technical material, but from such errors one is not able to conclude that there is a general failure in objectivity. The two are unrelated.
And a failure in objectivity at times does not necessarily mean that the investigator's sole purpose is to support his previously held position.

We've known for a long time that TWA800 was a shoot down. A few Clinton enemies on that flight that missed an earlier flight, full of Clinton enemies, that was also shot down.
“Disagree. NR still publishes some good pieces. Victor Davis Hanson is excellent there. Kevin Williamson is not everyone’s cup of tea but he’s very smart and an entertaining writer. Michael Brendan Dougherty writes a lot of good pieces.”
Those people have or could easily find other outlets.
Lowry has to go. He has a history of virtue signaling and jumping the gun without checking the facts. I recall his doing this to George Zimmerman, who, in self defense, shot Treyvon Martin while he was pounding Zimmerman’s head into the pavement. Zimmerman was later acquitted in a trial that never should have been held.
