Who really wants to drain the "Swamp"?

Posted on 01/23/2019 8:20:57 AM PST by Rumplemeyer

Here is one very easy way to drain the swamp that is our government. Change our present tax system to a flat tax system.

You see our present system is based on a series of one shot laws written for the benefit of those making donations to our congress and senate critters. Why do you think the tax code is almost 100 thousand pages long?

A flat tax system would eliminate this legal bribery. No more special exemptions for consideration of the generous donations to reelection campaigns of our "Leaders".

These are known to we the great unwashed as "Loopholes"

The mere suggestion of a Flat Tax elicit cries of injustice; "women, children and minorities hit hardest", when the terror is felt by our career politicians who might loose their power.

Think about it, taking away their ability to enact every looney social engineering idea they dream up.

OK, what is your suggestion? What is your plan? How would you solve the problem?

What is your plan? How would you solve the problem?

Did I say I had one? I don't think I did or even implied I had one.

I just said your plan, which requires those who inhabit the swamp, garner power and wealth from the swamp, to pass legislation that is going to destroy all that they require & seek so desperately to hold on to, is not going to pass. It's a non-starter. In other words, your plan won't work, and that is the reason why.

We elected someone who is trying to do just that. That isn't working, because there are too many bureaucrats who are not elected and thus are not accountable to "We The People". In addition there are elected politician's that do not share our ideals, and thus are not accountable to "We The People" either. I see only a bloody violent solution, because peaceful elections are no longer cherished in this country. But I realize that even a bloody violent solution is not going to occur, because too many will wait for someone else to make that move, thus, that move will never occur. We will lose this nation with a whimper, not a bang.

Don't take my critique personally, as it was offered without rose colored glasses that you wore to see your solution. It was offered with no filters whatsoever, just plain reality as it is.

It was also common knowledge and undeniable that Donald Trump could never be elected president...

I do not wear rose colored glass, I just see what might be.

A positive attitude can move mountains.

Yep, among the liberal/leftist faction of America, of which I am not a part of. Thus I knew it would be close, because Hillary is so unlikable even within her party. I argued with many on this board and on other boards that he would become our next president.

Well perhaps you are not wearing rose colored glasses, but clearly you are looking through some kind of prism, or you are wearing blinders if you believe the swamp creatures will vote itself out of office and the environment that enriches them.

Why do you think we will never have term limits? The only reason the president has term limits is because it rankled the Republicans when FDR was elected for his 4th term. Republicans were then in charge of Congress. In 1947, they pushed through the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, limiting future presidents to two four-year terms. The ratification of the amendment came on this date in 1951, when Minnesota became the 36th state to ratify it.

But they would never pass an amendment that would limit their termss in office.

What you mat also forget is that the GOPe was so incensed that the base would select Donald J. Trump they talked about denying Trump even if the base selected him. How they resisted that one is beyond me, because that is the kind of move the “stupid” party (a.k.a. The Republican) usually makes. Perhaps it was the hue & cry from the base that if they did pull such a stunt, the Republican Party would never win another race.

Yes, the future generations of American are so compliant that they will gladly trade their freedom for the “security” of socialism.

Prebate is designed to provide the basic necessities of life tax FRee for ALL families LEGALLY residing in the USA. They have to have a REAL SSN for ALL family members to qualify, and it is a voluntary prebate; if a family chooses not to take it, they just don’t sign up for it!

And, since the prebate is based on the poverty level for a given family size, it cannot be easily manipulated.

It most definitely is NOT “. . . the equivalent of a welfare payment to low income earners.”

The FAIRtax legislation defunds the IRS two years after adoption, and calls for repeal of the 16th Amendment. Repeal of 16th requires separate legislation, and every Congress that FAIRtax has been introduced, has had companion legislation calling for the repeal of the 16th
Amendment.

Politicians are slippery creatures, and voters need to hold them to account; when they don’t do as they promised, they need to be turned out of office!

I’m in favor of term limits! Term limits would help us drain the swamp!

Er, don’t look now, but the FAIRtax rate, 23%, IS an import tariff.

ONE of the features of the FAIR tax that I really like is that it levels the playing field re: domestic vs. imported goods. That is, they are treated EQUALLY - both are taxed at EXACTLY the same rate.

That is but one of the reasons the FAIRtax is called “FAIR!”

If you like the IRS, you will support the Flat Tax - IRS stays in place. I can field a very persuasive argument that the nastiest federal bureaucracy will get even NASTIER under the Flat Tax!

OTOH, if you want to celebrate abolishing the IRS, you will support the FAIRtax.

Of course you’re right, but The Swamp will never vote to abolish itself in that way. We need to stop the Socialist rescals by ending their influence. I favor iron handed action and the explosion of Alinsky’s tactics and methods. Turnabout doesn’t always have to be fair play. My watch words for the future may become intransigence and ordnance.

Tariffs are better than the fair tax. Our founders knew that. The fair tax does nothing to protect American industry and workers.

A patriot doesn't want an equal playing field between domestic and imported goods, only Free Traitors™ want that. A nationalist wants to promote American industry and to protect it.

... since the prebate is based on the poverty level for a given family size...

And who gets to define the poverty level? Can you not hear a politician running for office promising to raise the poverty definition? The "definition" of poverty for a family of 4 when I was teaching the Intro Econ course at a university was $9600. In 2018, it is now defined as $12,140 for an individual and increases by $4,320 for each family member. So a family 4 faces a poverty level of $25,100. Those increases far outstrip inflation over the same period, so the "definition" of poverty itself has changed. It used to be that you could not own a car, a TV, home or much of anything to be poor enough to get public assistance. Now, we are so far off the rails that we give away cell phones to poor people. Try and tell me politicians won't play with the Prebate and I've think I've got a bridge to sell you.
