And who gets to define the poverty level? Can you not hear a politician running for office promising to raise the poverty definition? The "definition" of poverty for a family of 4 when I was teaching the Intro Econ course at a university was $9600. In 2018, it is now defined as $12,140 for an individual and increases by $4,320 for each family member. So a family 4 faces a poverty level of $25,100. Those increases far outstrip inflation over the same period, so the "definition" of poverty itself has changed. It used to be that you could not own a car, a TV, home or much of anything to be poor enough to get public assistance. Now, we are so far off the rails that we give away cell phones to poor people. Try and tell me politicians won't play with the Prebate and I've think I've got a bridge to sell you.
You know as well as I do that yours is a VERY weak, inane argument!
Here we are talking about a fundamental change in the way the government raises funds for its operations, and you want to quibble about a feature of the FAIRtax that applies EQUALLY to EVERY legal family in America based strictly on family size?
That UNTAXES the basic necessities of life for EVERYONE LIVING LEGALLY IN AMERICA?
The “poverty guideline” (i.e., the poverty level amount for a given family size) is adjusted annually the by statisticians at the Department of Health and Human Services.
You know that politicians cannot adjust the poverty level!
The issue we are talking about is FREEDOM!
FAIRtax is FREEDOM; Flat Tax is slavery!
Where do you stand?
As for me, I stand for FREEDOM! It is nobody’s business how I make my living or how much I make, much less some faceless bureaucrat at America’s most unconstitutional Agency!
