Here is one very easy way to drain the swamp that is our government. Change our present tax system to a flat tax system.
You see our present system is based on a series of one shot laws written for the benefit of those making donations to our congress and senate critters. Why do you think the tax code is almost 100 thousand pages long?
A flat tax system would eliminate this legal bribery. No more special exemptions for consideration of the generous donations to reelection campaigns of our "Leaders".
These are known to we the great unwashed as "Loopholes"
The mere suggestion of a Flat Tax elicit cries of injustice; "women, children and minorities hit hardest", when the terror is felt by our career politicians who might loose their power.
Think about it, taking away their ability to enact every looney social engineering idea they dream up.
If the cartels could buy a President of Mexico for $100 million, why could they not also buy an anti-Wall position by a party in the USA..?
Certainly not Congress.
Keep dreaming.
Flat tax is an improvement but fair tax is better.
Draining a swamp is like eliminating vanities of FR.
As fast as you scoop it out, it just drains back in.
I want a flat tax with no deductions. Same for corporate taxes.
You pay tax on your gross earnings and corporations pay tax on their gross revenues.
No deductions. No cheats.
And no taxation that discriminates against income that didn’t come from a paycheck.
All income should get taxed at the same rate.
Also, no charitable deductions including churches. You should pay your tithe honestly and not expect a kickback from the government.
No cheats, no deals, just pay the amount due and be done with it.
About half of what the federal government does is unconstitutional. The federal government gets about half of its revenue from income tax.
Seems like a wash to me, repeal the 16th Amendment!
Please check out the “Federalist Letters to Corporate America” in my blog at the url in my signature block.
The issue isn’t flat or graduated, you are talking about deductions that don’t necessarily go with one and not the other.
But we are so far gone. Guv needs to be a sliver the size it is now. And basically everyone high in the judiciary, bureaucracy and politics all have to go, as well as many, many laws that protect them.
Absolutely wrong! I'd be for the Fair Tax if it wasn't for the "prebate". That's the equivalent of a welfare payment to low income earners. Once you put that in, you open the door for politicians to play dangle-the-carrot again. Get rid of the prebate and I'd support it, with the understanding that the income tax goes away.
Recently, Indiana has almost a 4x increase in property taxes and there was a state-wide rebellion. The politicians said: "Ok, we'll roll the property taxes back to their original levels (plus 2%) if you'll give us a 1% increase in sale taxes." It took then 6 weeks to change the sales tax figures and over 3 years to adjust the property tax levels. Canada accepted a VAT tax with the promise that the income tax would go away. Canadians are now paying both. If you're going to seriously consider this route, you better make the law airtight!
You echoed my post asking “Who are the Drug Cartels paying to stop the wall”?
We need to see the tax and financial records of our “leaders” to see where their money comes from.
Thays what I like a positive attitude.
EXACTLY. Take away the ability to trade favors for money, it is bribery.
Sametime with public unions, they negotiate with the people they give campaign donations to. Do that anywhere else and it is bribery.
Public employees are protected by civil service, no union representation is needed. If they want to have unions, then they cannot donate money to candidates or negotiate contracts.
I know reading this will send members of the NEA and other public unions into a frenzy...good.
I liked Steve Forbes, the flat tax candidate. I hope he is doing ok, wherever he is.
That's like saying if everyone became true believers of Christianity there would be no more abortion. While the desired result of ending abortions would come about if there was a true mass resurgence to Christianity, it would require more than just a positive attitude for it to become a reality. I suggest it would take a major catastrophe for that kind of mass resurgence to occur.
It's going to take something equally as devastating for the swamp to be drained. The swamp creatures will not facilitate that draining to occur. In fact, they will resist it with all of their strength and might, just as they are doing. Simple solutions rarely, if ever, work. Many times the simple solution just creates more problems.

PING.
Article and #15.
And EVERYBODY participates, even those on welfare are taxed on the value of the welfare they receive!!
Exactly. All income taxed at the same rate. Period.
No deals, no loopholes, no whining.
It might work, so it will not happen.
The best would be a combination of a 20% import tariff and a fair tax.
