Drop by drop, gallon by gallon, thieves have been draining the pipelines and coffers of the Mexican government.
Last year, $3 billion worth of fuel was stolen from Pemex, Mexico's state-owned oil company, according to the country's new president. But a crackdown by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has left many ordinary Mexicans struggling to find gas.
The government has shifted transport of fuel to tanker trucks and rail cars and away from pipelines, which are regularly tapped by thieves. But the new distribution systems apparently can't keep up with consumer demand. Pemex has had to tell customers not to panic or hoard fuel.
Major fuel shortages have been reported in at least six Mexican states over the past several days and images showed people lined up at gas stations, empty canisters in hand.
Video from Guanajuato where the Associated Press reports that 84 percent of gas stations are closed shows a miles-long line of cars waiting to tank up.

Britain, an island practically made out of coal, transitioned to socialism. I a short time, they were importing coal.
Lots of shale in Wales too.

Someone has suggested that if Saudi Arabia turned to Socialism, it wouldn’t take very long for them to run out of sand.

It seems to be limited to Mexico City (DF).
I have to say it is a tribute to AMLO that he is willing to take the hit when he shut down the illegal theft.
I suspect when the smoke settles Gasoline prices will lower in Mexico (they are around $5/gallon).

The real ‘deal breaker’ for the US in enforcing and GETTING Mexico to comply on US border security
And YES it could be interesting
Saudi Arabia already imports sand.

I hope so.
At least it is a government controlled operation to bring about financial solvency.
Many people think that it "Can't happen here" in the USA (gas shortage).
But they forget huricane Irma that flushed much of the population of Florida northward.
The folks in South Flrida were told to evacuate- quickest way was by overland by driving into Tampa / Orlando area.
Then the hurricane moved northward towards Tampa / Orlando area,
and travlers and temporary residents found their hotels and motels were closing due to concerns about liability.
Gas stations couldn't get resupplied, and most stations limited gasoline purchases to 5 gallons,
and many stations gasoline was at 'gouging prices' since demnd exceeded supply.
And now even more people were flushed even further north into Georgia, Alabama, and the Carolinas.
Then, even the Florida Governor was concerned as gas delivery trucks were having a problems traveling to resupply gasoline stations
even to the point of having law enforcement accompany delivery trucks to assure safe passage.
What I am saying is that supply couldn't keep up with the demand; it already did happen here in the USA.
Also, most consumers don't realize that there is an occupational shortage of truck drivers here in this country.
Fortunately, much of our fuel travels by underground pipeline, but still needs truck drivers to deliver to most gasoline service stations.
The Communists believe there is no such thing as ‘Property’ so this isn’t ‘Theft’.
I’ve known about sand being exported to the ME since the 80’s.
A neighbor got a job working in SA and was surprised to find them importing sand.
He brought back two bottles of sand. One beach, the other desert sand and let us compare them under his microscope.
I was stunned to see the smoothness of the desert sand while the beach sand was jagged and irregular. Desert sand was smooth because it was “polished” by being blown around in the sandstorms.
Because of it’s smoothness it was worthless as a binding agent in concrete.
Sand to Saudi Arabia
Coal to Newcastle
Thank you for letting us know about that!
“Pemex has had to tell customers not to panic or hoard fuel, despite the government change in delivery policy.”
I’ll still never forget when Johnny Carson made a joke about a (then) non-existent toilet paper shortage (circa 1973-74). It became a real shortage starting the next day, and it lasted for a nice few weeks. Way to go, Pemex ass-clowns!

Thanks for the ping
Fuel pipelines only work in a high-trust society. Which Mexico AIN’T.
Ahhh...they’re just practicing for when they waltz across the Rio Grande - plenty of light sweet crude and refined gasoline to steal up there.
Remember: family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande, right George?
