I thought Emmanuel Macron was asking for trouble when just after his 2017 election victory he staged a victory celebration in which he walked, alone and floodlit, across the courtyard of the Louvre, the old royal palace. Who does he think he is, I thought, the King of France? Since the Bastille fortress was stormed by the people of Paris on July 14, 1789, the country has got rid of three kings, two emperors and several presidents, and has worked its way, often violently, through 15 constitutions. Every time there has been a major uprising, it has taken everyone by surprise. The last king had to escape hastily from Paris in a hansom cab, and reached England on a Channel ferry disguised as Bill Smith. Indeed, every French monarch since 1815, and the first president of every republic, spent time as an exile in Britain.

As Madame Macron says, “Let them eat cake.”
If people feel those in power despise them, sooner or later they react.
We reacted via the election of 2016. But if the coup against Trump succeeds and that bitch is still walking around free things could get worse - a lot worse.
Thanks C19fan.
And to think most of France voted for the very president they seemingly despise now.
I wonder if they will get to the point of eating their pets, Venezuela style, before Sharia Law takes hold.
The French character is still — so French.
In some of the interviews I saw, they want socialism, they just want the “rich” business owners to pay for it. They’re mad because Macron recognized that business moved or folded if they were too highly taxed.
Did they? Did the French vote for him? It doesn’t matter who votes, it matters who counts them as we have learned in California and Florida. What was that quote, if voting really mattered do you really think they would let you?
From what I have read the shrinking French suburban and semi-rural middle class is tired of seeing the taxes they pay going largely to benefit those living in urban areas. The tax on fuel was especially galling because they depend on their own transportation while many of those in the cities don’t.
There is no doubt in my mind that even how tax money is distributed has a motive of social engineering. Just as you no longer have zoning simply to set things such density and permitted occupancies. Taxation will now be a means forcing people to adopt a lifestyle more in keeping with what people such as Macron think are better for the planet and ourselves.
An interesting fact. No doubt one Theresa May has never heard.
Agree. Taxation and the environmentalist ideals underpinning much of the tax policy is really a reincarnation of feudalism. We rightly condemn ancient feudalism for treating whole groups of people as chattel: bought, sold, transferred, enslaved and conscripted at the whim of their cosseted overlords. Todays overlords are the ruling class of government and government-affiliated citizens who, at their whim, can destroy individuals, communities, professions and lifestyles. Todays serfs are coal miners, lumberjacks, truckers, oil workers, religious practitioners, home schoolers, small business owners, farmers, soldiers, hunters and the politically incorrect. So now the serfs are rising again.
The socialism equation in France and other European countries now has an entirely new component as muslims and sub-saharan africans are scarfing up all the benefits without paying anything into the pot. This is what the riots are about but the media refuse to admit it. It’s also why there’s no real solution since the globalists are 100% committed to continued and even increased levels of 3rd world migration going forward.
The more I read, the less faith I have in this movement. The very best outcome for the end of the Yellow Vest revolution to me does not turn into liberal democracy. It just turns into a different form of socialism where instead of taxing all the poor people to pay for their socialist agenda, they tax all the rich people to pay for their socialist agenda. In the end, it’s still a socialist agenda.
The French seem to do that a lot. That’s why they’ve already had five republics. Looks like they’re getting ready for number 6.
The French people are oiling up their Guillotines. Let the tumbrills roll!!
Yeah, but if they fight each other in a bloody war then a whole bunch of socialists die.
Just a little factoid about the Guillotine. It was created by a doctor (Dr. Joseph Guillotine) as a more humane way to conduct capital punishment. I doubt he would have been involved in the invention if he knew what it would come to symbolize.
