since siding with those who support gun control, business has gone down at Dicks Sporting Goods and the company may have to close Field & Stream:
Edward Stack, chairman and CEO of Dicks, said during the event that the sporting goods chains recent 3.9 percent drop in same-store sales was the result of a mix of factors beyond their control as well as some he called self-imposed. Specifically, he said, the decisions we made on firearms negatively affected their bottom line but the drop in sales was something they expected. They did not, however, regret their decision to change a number of their gun-sales policies and back new gun-control legislation.

You are one lucky guy. Loved me some PSA until last year when The Soviet State of Kalifornia enacted new anti 2nd Amendment laws.

Naming a sporting goods store “Dick’s” or “Herman’s” probably didn’t help.

just like the Sports Authority, after they announced their anti gun policy I have refused to go in to a Dicks.
Sports Authority went out of bidness.
Dicks is soon to do the same.
Buh bye Dicks.

At least be consistent.
If you don't think people should own firearms, don't sell them.

Given DKS’s institutional ownership, the abysmal decision making doesn’t surprise me.

They tore down a Sears store at the local mall and replaced it with Dick’s and Field & Stream. For a town our size, I thought the Field and Stream store was unnecessary. The Field and Stream store is only 3 years old.

"It could be that black rifles weren t selling, and Dicks chose to virtue signal in discontinuing them. The local wal-mart did so, without fanfare, well before the Florida shooting. Building AR type rifles has become a huge part of the market."
Both Dick's and Walmart stopped selling "modern rifles" strictly due to politics. That category is outselling all other long guns, I'm pretty sure. Even if not, it is a very good profit generator.
Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore (a direct competitor to Dick's) is kind enough to publish sales rankings:
https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/best-selling-guns-2017/
An AR is #3, behind two pistols.
Dick's management were fools, the move to stop selling AR type rifles alienated a very core customer segment - and one that complained loudly and then voted with its wallet.
I think Walmart was forgiven to a much larger extent because firearms are a small part of its business. Still a shame though...

Nobody seems to mention—they DESTROYED the guns.
They were not sold or returned.
HUGE hit to be bottom line—but worse mention to possible customers who will NEVER come back.

No but I bet their stockholders do. They should be headed to jail for blowing off their fiduciary responsibilities.

For years I have thought Dick’s was an accounting fraud waiting to happen. I would see their stock go up based on reported strong earnings, but my own observations were that the stores were devoid of customers. I still think they are a scam.
