Honoring God with Thanks
November 30, 2018
Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.
Psalm 50:15
The doctor wasnt frowning, despite talking to my husband about his recent cancer diagnosis. Smiling, she offered a suggestion: start each day by giving thanks. For at least three things, the doctor said. Dan agreed, knowing that gratitude opens our hearts to find encouragement in Gods goodness. Thus, Dan starts each day with words of praise. Thank You, God, for a good nights sleep. For my clean bed. For sunshine. For breakfast on the table. For a smile on my lips.
Each word is heartfelt. But could it sound trivial? Does our praise in lifes small details matter to Almighty God? In Psalm 50, Davids chief musician, Asaph, offers a clear answer. God has no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens (v. 9). Instead of these once-formal Israelite sacrifices of gratitude, God wants His people to give Him our hearts and lives in gratitude (vv. 14, 23).
As my husband experienced, whole-hearted gratitude helps our spirits flourish. Then when we call on the Lord in the day of trouble, He will deliver us (v. 15). Does this mean Dan will be healed, spiritually and physically, during his two-year treatment? Or not until after this lifetime? We dont know. But for now, Dan delights in showing God hes grateful for His love, and for who God is: Redeemer. Healer. Friend. And friends delight to hear these beautiful words: Thank You.
My gratitude to God is great to Him.
The legal language and setting in Psalm 50 are hard to miss. A universal summons is issued by God (v. 1) and the purpose of the gathering is clearthe judgment of His people (v. 4). In a manner reminiscent of the giving of the Law (Exodus 19:1619), the Lord makes His grand entry (Psalm 50:23) as the righteous and just judge (v. 6). However, judge is not His only role; He is also witness (v. 7) and plaintiff (v. 8). Two groups of defendants enter the Lords courtroom and the Judge has indictments that match the transgressions of each group. The Lords charges against the first group (vv. 715) concerned their worship. Though a formal worship system was in place, the kind of worship the Lord desired was missing. Spiritual worship that included thanksgiving mattered to the Lord more than the flesh and blood of animals. The charges against the second group (vv. 1623) concerned their hypocrisy. Though they were able to recite words that came from God, their actions demonstrated their hearts were far from Him (vv. 1721). As with the first group, the Lords corrective included the reminder that thank offerings really matter to Him (v. 23).

Yikes!! Good Evening.
The mornings start off in fog and clears a bit during the day but the ceiling isn't high enough for the low altitude jumpers. Free fall jumpers just go through the clouds provided they're not rain clouds that would get their 'chuts wet and cause problems.

WOO-HOO, Hiya radu!
An OK day, late deliveries by our new driver of my magazines to my various stores has been giving me too much idle time but, HEY, I'm getting paid to be idle so I'm dealing with it, LOL.
I just like to stay busy and get the job done.
Anyway, rainy here but warmer, tomorrow is an easy day.
Howz things with you?

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...weather report?
We got a good covering of snow, only to probably lose it this weekend when the temps go up again and rain comes. *sigh*
Is Penny enjoying her mud room?

You DID get quite a bit of snow today. Makes it a lot brighter at night. Too bad it won’t be around long.
It was a little warmer here today but it was dreary, dark, and damp. The temp is supposed to slowly go up overnight and rain chances increase. We had a few light showers today.

Pennyt really loves the mud room...it is like an airlock between the nice warm house and the icy cold exterior, a place to put on our coats before venturing out.
We’ve had some dry days, enough to dry up the puddles before the deep freeze, so I’m content.
And so is Penny.

Since it’s a new driver, he can be forgiven for being late. But just this week! LOL
Getting paid to twiddle your thumbs while you wait makes it bearable, at least, but it’s nicer to get the job done and head on home.
We warmed up a little, at last, but we have a few rainy few days ahead. At least it’s rain and not snow!
A pretty mellow day here. Just had to make a quick run into town for a few things and that was it for excitement. :-)

That is da trut’! Besides I have to stand guard so MY kitties can eat before Mystery shows up and runs them off. sigh I wish his owners would keep him indoors. If he has owners.
How was your day today? Hope it’s started warming up for you. Are you still getting rain?
It was pretty breezy here early on, but quieted down in the afternoon. I worked more on cleaning all the surfaces in my kitchen. Ugh! I only do one section at a time so I don’t overdo it. Must pace myself. LOL! Only need to clean one very high shelf. I always put it off till last.

So Mystery is STILL showing up at suppertime, is he? Wish there was a way to discourage him without frightening your cats.
It was a dreary day here but at least it was warmer. The temp is still creeping up slowly and should keep doing it overnight.
Made a quick run into town this afternoon and just puttered around the house. A little sweeping here, wiping there, have a load of laundry going right now.

Yes, he is, and now he’s showing up at breakfast time, too. I have to stay out till the kitties have finished eating. They usually eat it all if given a chance. Tonight, Ghost didn’t show up so there were leftovers. So, Mystery got them, I started to bring the food back in, but is seems silly to have to do that. So, stuff like that encourages him, unfortunately. I wish Ghost would thwack him, but he seems to “know” him and isn’t combative at all.
Glad it’s warming up there....though slowly. Maybe that means it’ll stay a bit warmer longer. Tomorrow is supposed to be super windy here and get colder.
The roller coaster keeps going.

Weird that Ghost doesn’t run him off. You’d think he wouldn’t want another cat in his territory.
It cost him his supper tonight.
It’s still warming up but it feels cooler than it did this afternoon because the wind’s picked up. Blowing at a good clip and will stay windy through the weekend. We’ll have mid to upper 60s the next few days, then cool back into the 40s next week.
Yep, the roller coaster keeps going.

Busy, busy, busy day...I really could have used several more hours, but no OT no matter if the work gets done or not. I would have brought some home, but I can’t access the program I need from home. Oh well...maybe I’ll try to go to bed early.
I did end up with a total of almost 5” of snow. It’s beautiful outside and all the trees are flocked. Deck is shoveled, ducks quacking the whole time for more corn, groceries put away, pizza cooked, and crashed in the lounger now. Eating pizza, FReeping, watching NCIS, and trying to stay awake. Exciting evening. LOL!

It is weird. He just looks at him and walks away. I think they know each other. Maybe siblings? Or Ghost is his dad, too? I dunno.
The wind always makes things worse. Even a nice 70 degree day can feel chilly if the wind is blowing. Just enjoy those 60s while you have them. Maybe you can even slip into the flip-flops. :)

Eating pizza, FReeping, watching NCIS ... That sounds like a fine evening to me! LOL
Bummer you can't access the work program from home so you could get caught up a little more tonight. They screwed you when they stopped the overtime.
How many ducks are showing up this year?
