With only five more weeks of regular season play, the NFL is still the object of scorn on social media as fans wonder why stadiums from coast to coast have loads of empty seats.

I bought professional rugby league tickets again for 2019. Glendale Raptors are the Denver area team and they play in a rugby stadium.
The NFL in the 1950s was brutal, it was truly no-holds barred. If you ever want to know how it was, read Art Donovan's "Fatso".
LOL. Right.
NASCAR has hardly jumped the PC shark. 99% of the drivers are white guys. Who, in my humble opinion, are all cut from the same boring cloth to the point where I can hardly tell one from the other. If it weren’t for the fact that the Busch brothers are flaming a**holes, there wouldn’t even be anyone to root against.
Danica Patrick was a bust, but thats one driver and she’s gone now. Of course, how many races did Jimmy Spencer win back in the day? Not many that I recall, and he always seemed to have a ride.
I have no problem with minority outreach if you want to expand the base.....but to what effect? The drivers are virtually all white. The owners are all white. And you’re going to argue PC chased off the hardcore redneck fan? Nonsense. In fact, I think the hardcore redneck fan base is all thats left.
Plus, all of the rules that were imposed to essentially make every car alike. ...No longer allowed are the innovative engine builders who could make engines that would give their cars an edge on the others.
Barring mechanical problems, they all run about the same speed and it’s boring to just watch cars go around the track, lap after lap.
Haven’t seen a play since these ungrateful buffoons started disrespecting the USA. The he** with them .
As usual, Detroit Lions suck,...why would i pay anything to see that?
Attendance woes for NASCAR began immediately following Brian France opening his mouth about redneck fans. They didn’t begin with minority outreach. I’m familiar with two programs at historically black universities in North Carolina that were working closely with NASCAR well before then.
Try as you might to paint the sport racist, that is not the problem. The problem is corporate disdain for their own fan base, and that fan base took note. They voted with their feet, and as a result the sport is a shadow of it’s former self. And, we’re witnessing the same behavior with pro football.
It’s very interesting and odd for a FReeper to be championing such things, and calling anyone redneck, though. In what way are you conservative, bigdaddy45? Are you sure you belong here, or are you merely trolling?
Im sorry. I didnt realize I was dealing with someone with reading comprehension problems. I never said NASCAR was racist. Quite the opposite. In addition, you seem to think the word redneck is a slur. I dont. I have many proud self-proclaimed rednecks in my family, and God bless em.
NASCAR has gone down the toilet because its gotten boring. Just read the responses on this thread. Fans root for drivers and cars. The drivers used to have personality. Now theyre just a bunch of bland corporate pretty boys. The car is used to be differentiated. You had the Ford versus Chevy crowd. Now, I cant tell one car from another.
Fans couldnt care less what Brian Francis has said. By the way, he also publicly endorsed Donald Trump.
I have no problems with reading comprehension, but you do have a problem with wanting to be combative and negative toward FReepers, consistently. NASCAR has collapsed under Brian France’s watch, he’s a complete PC dolt and has no business in that business whatsoever. I made a fair amount of my living from NASCAR-related collectibles and apparel at one point in my life, no longer. It’s all at his feet. Calling your core fan base rednecks and telling them they’re not wanted is in large part responsible for the collapse whether you’re willing to admit that or not. Minorities just aren’t all that into it, doesn’t appear they ever will be. Women aren’t either. So, there you have it. A bunch of aging white guys, many of whom self-identify as rednecks, that’s the fan base. Appeal to them. Stop running them off.
Why do I want to be “combative and negative towards FReepers”? I don’t. Unless they reveal themselves to be, quite frankly, stupid.
Case in point. The original poster posted the following: “What has happened to NASCAR? Is it the PC/diversity craze? I see they are recruiting college athletes so they can have affirmative action pit crews now.”
And the implication of that post? That having a few black guys changing tires is going to drive off fans. “Hey Larry, is that a black fella’ changin’ Greg Biffle’s tires??” “Sure looks like it Marvin. No more NASCAR for me. Lets get outta here.”.
It was a stupid post, and made NASCAR fans look like a bunch of knuckle-dragging cretins. Which they are not.
NASCAR is losing fans because its become overexposed, homogenized, and boring.
Oh, and as to your comment that women aren’t into NASCAR? Don’t know what kind of women you know. My wife used to be a HUGE fan a few years ago, along with several of her friends. These days, she just doesn’t care. All the old guys who gave you a reason to root for them (or against) them, are gone. And it had nothing to do with anything Brian France said or didn’t say. Or the color of the guy changing tires.
The exception doesn’t prove the rule as far as female fans and I note you’re dragging it right back to race again.
Thanks for your responses. I have never been a NFL fan so ive been out of the loop.
“As for the Chargers not filling up their 27,000 seat temporary home, Ive heard people say theres too much else to do in LA, plus there are already so many sports teams there, that the Chargers dont get much attention, even with a playoff caliber team this season.”
Yeah, it’s so much different than a couple years ago before they chose to move there.
You got it! Although if you want truly brutal, you have to go back to the roots of football. Before and during Walter Camp. THAT was rough. All these dudes are playing a wussy game by comparison.
God bless our BALTIMORE Colts!
