"Suspicious Minds": Trump accused of racism for honoring Elvis, as he awards Medal of Freedom
Fox ^ | 11/16/2018

Not everyone believes Elvis is the king.

President Trump will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to seven Americans on Friday, including the late rock star Elvis Presley, though even that gesture is coming under fire from liberals.

Trump is honoring Presley, baseball legend Babe Ruth, former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, philanthropist Miriam Adelson, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, jurist Alan Page, and Hall-of-Fame quarterback Roger Staubach.

Still, some have accused Trump of racism for honoring Presley, long known as the "King of Rock and Roll."

The Washington Post’s pop culture critic Chris Richards called Trump’s move “a little nod to the good old days, back when black visionaries could invent rock-and-roll, but only a white man could become the king.”

“Yes, Trump is sending a message here,” Richards wrote That claim has been scoffed at online, with the Weekly Standard publishing a rebuttal titled, “Elvis Wasn’t Racist. Neither Is Giving Him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

“If you’re invested in making Elvis an avatar for racial resentments more than 40 years after his death, you’re, perhaps unwittingly, making the problems of contemporary divisions worse,” columnist Mark Hemingway wrote. “Music is one of a precious few cultural forces still holding us together.”

Liberals have also protested Trump’s award for Adelson, the wife of GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson. The New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called the award to Adelson “ludicrous” and an “insult to people who received the medal for genuine service.” Krugman said she’s “done nothing for her country besides being the wife of a Trump-friendly megadonor.”

Through the years we've watch GOP and RAT presidents bestow the Medal of Freedom on mostly liberal mutts. Trump should have named Rush Limbaugh for a Medal of Freedom. Since the late 80's Rush has been one of the consistent voices in the wilderness and a hemorrhoidto the RATS./p>

They gave the Medal of Freedom to Cassius Clay, aka Muhammed Ali, an avowed draft dodger. At least with Elvis, he was drafted and willingly served his country.

Is there anything in the history of mankind that some idiot black or white powder puff won't claim was first invented or discovered
by blacks then whites came along and stole it?

It's a wonder we are allowed to breathe or walk because the theory is that some black did it first.

Racism. Like porn, I know it when I see it.

Back in the 50s and early 60s things that would have been porn, are now seen nightly on your TV shows. (Movies? Cable? OMG!)

Racism is similar in that times change. What was allowed then, acceptable then, is anathema today.

I’m not saying that they did, but even IF Elvis and the Babe had said/done things that would be considered racist today, doesn’t mean it was racist or verboten then.

This just more PC BULLSHIRT!

STAMP OUT PC AT ALL COSTS AND IN EVERY WAY.

Washington Post’s pop culture critic Chris Richards, who hasn’t given credible evidence that he’s not a racist....

See how easy that is. I could write for the WP.

Don’t know about anyone else but I am done worrying about the word racism. It’s use in attack in the future will have no effect on me. I suggest all thinking people adopt the same position.

Gust of wind blows Trump’s hair as he exits AF1.

He flips it back into place.

Media calls Trump racist.

I wish that was sarcasm: I wouldn’t bet money that it won’t happen.

I was in Vegas in the early 2000’s, 25 years after Elvis’ death - there was black Elvis, white Elvis and middle eastern Elvis.

Black singers started rhythm and blues. Elvis grew up listening to rythym and blues, country and gospel. He combined it all and sang his own style, not like any white man before him or back man before him. He didn’t steal a thing. Jimmy Rodgers was singing the blues in the 20s. Elvis was Elvis. By the way his favorite singers were Dean Martin and Roy Orbison, and JD Sumner, the gospel bass legend, who was in his band for a while. Elvis’ favorite music was Southern Gospel.
