The Supreme Court spent a gruesome hour Tuesday debating a constitutional way to execute a Missouri man who has a rare medical condition, with the likely decider, new justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, joining the courts liberals with tough questions for the state.
Modern and ancient execution methods a firing squad, electrocution, hanging, lethal gas, being burned at the stake all made appearances during the courts sober assessment of ways to kill Russell Bucklew without violating the Constitutions ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
Missouri plans to use an injection of a single drug, pentobarbital, to carry out the long-delayed execution of Bucklew. But he suffers from a congenital and rare disease called cavernous hemangioma. It causes blood-filled tumors to grow in his head, neck and throat, which his attorneys say could rupture during the states lethal injection process.
The result, they contend, would be that he could choke to death on his own blood.
*** In 1996, Bucklew, now 50, stalked after his former girlfriend Stephanie Ray at another mans trailer. He shot and killed the man, Michael Sanders, tried to shoot Rays fleeing child and then captured Ray. He handcuffed and raped her, then wounded a police officer in a subsequent gunfight.
Bucklew later escaped from jail and attacked Rays mother with a hammer before he was recaptured.

Nitrogen asphyxiation - fast, painless and it will stop these kinds of cases before the courts. A couple of states already practice this, I believe.
Bing! Bing! Bing! We have a winner! Outstanding, I had not thought of that, an execution method that libs cannot complain about.
It causes blood-filled tumors to grow in his head, neck and throat, which his attorneys say could rupture during the states lethal injection process.
Nitrogen almost got one of my friends.
He was alert enough to get out when he went all woozy.
Unix is a shell game :)
Very misleading headline.
Right. Is being handcuffed and raped by this scumbag hurt more than choking while he’s asleep? Does being hit with a hammer hurt more than choking while he’s asleep? Give him the choice of choking while he’s asleep or being raped and then killed by being beaten with a hammer, like he did to his victims.
Exactly.
The fact that this is even being discussed indicates how far from sanity our society has come.
Really afraid Kavanaugh will be another Roberts.
We have plenty of fentanyl or even heroin in the evidence stores of practically every police station in the country.
States should have capital punishment laws that give the state flexibility on the method, so as to avoid a mere “can’t do it” because a particular method is “inhumane” for a particular person in that persons condition. With flexibilty they should be able to choose the best method for any situation, instead of a one-method-fits-all legal mandate.
Odd that we are concerned that an execution may kill him.
At this point, any execution would be less painful to him than what his victims got.
I am not, I want an execution method that ensures 99 percent probability of death or higher.
Not before he listens entire collections of Streisand, Manilow and Beyonce whiny songs at max volume 24/7 for a week.
He’ll beg to be shot.
That would be torture for sure
Just what I was going to post. I don't understand why the states have had such a hard time finding a viable substance for lethal injections when there is stuff like this.
>It causes blood-filled tumors to grow in his head, neck and throat, which his attorneys say could rupture during the states lethal injection process.
>All the better...make it in Technicolor.
Immersion in a huge bucket of leeches. Have heard they aren’t painful. Much.
Thinking of this poor sobs “cruel and unusual punishment” while this bastard killed 5 people with no regards for their lives. Any way to kill him would be fine. Use a hammer like he used on his mother. That will work
Wasn’t someone executed that way recently, or about to be? I seem to remember something about that in the news.
So give him his choice of demise. Whatever it is, it’ll be better than what he did to the victim.
