The Supreme Court spent a gruesome hour Tuesday debating a constitutional way to execute a Missouri man who has a rare medical condition, with the likely decider, new justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, joining the court’s liberals with tough questions for the state.
Modern and ancient execution methods — a firing squad, electrocution, hanging, lethal gas, being burned at the stake — all made appearances during the court’s sober assessment of ways to kill Russell Bucklew without violating the Constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
Missouri plans to use an injection of a single drug, pentobarbital, to carry out the long-delayed execution of Bucklew. But he suffers from a congenital and rare disease called cavernous hemangioma. It causes blood-filled tumors to grow in his head, neck and throat, which his attorneys say could rupture during the state’s lethal injection process.
The result, they contend, would be that he could choke to death on his own blood.
*** In 1996, Bucklew, now 50, stalked after his former girlfriend Stephanie Ray at another man’s trailer. He shot and killed the man, Michael Sanders, tried to shoot Ray’s fleeing child and then captured Ray. He handcuffed and raped her, then wounded a police officer in a subsequent gunfight.
Bucklew later escaped from jail and attacked Ray’s mother with a hammer before he was recaptured.

I think at the time, the condemned had a choice of method in Utah. Or could at least request one of the three(?) methods available in the state.
Thailand, iirc, no longer has the DP, but for a number of decades, it was a single gunner emptying a magazine from a SMG hard-mounted to a post. I think the condemned was afixed face-first to the wall, and got it in the back.

Kavanaugh is a Catholic as I am. The Church calls us to have a consistent ethic on life from the unborn to the criminal.
I believe in the legal necessity Death Penalty — but not just thrown to people like Halloween candy. Anybody with a healthy distrust of government or civic authority should understand that. I do not always trust the people handing out the sentences. Period.
That's only cosmetic. It isn't cruel to the condemned; just the people who have to witness it.
Electric chair and poison destroy the organs.

While it might be unusual, it would lesson the chance of a cruel “choking on his own blood to death” if they did all of the above I would think.
(Burning at the stake? Really? I think I would prefer to choke on my own blood.)

Just lock the guy up in a room with democrats - take your pick - Hillary, Pelosi, Kamala, Maxine, the buggy eyed person from NYC or HOW ABOUT THE gal running for governor here in GA - provide him with enough implements and he’ll choose his own way to die! Done with it!
