And, for sure, for every inch a limousine stretches … they get considerably more dangerous,” the Democratic Senate minority leader said during a news conference in his Manhattan office. “They are neither classified as trucks or as cars, and while limousines themselves are glutting, when they are stretched … there is no regulation at all.”

“What I’m asking is that the NTSB investigate every stretch limo crash that we’ve had in this country,” Schumer said. “There have been a bunch. There’s now enough information to make recommendations … as to safety standards.”
Between 2012 and 2016, there were 12 large limo crashes in the United States, leading to 12 deaths, according to data compiled by Schumer’s office.

A better way to do it, is to have the insurance company prescribe what kind of safety measures they require in order to make the thing insurable.

If Bill Clinton had ‘political gifts’ in his 90s pomp then Chuck Schumer has spent his entire career as ungifted. He has an unassailable seat from a liberal redoubt and, like Pelosi, never has to worry about reelection but that doesn’t mask how truly awful he is.
His speeches are the most predictable paint by numbers hackery. This worst case, that disastrous outcome, one scare tactic after another. It’s obvious that the grandoise Schumer has never seen the text of his statements before reading them and he sounds like someone reciting names and numbers out of the phone book. Only in NY/DC would a person this lacking in personality be considered a ‘leader’ in nominal or practical terms.
The media do the Dems a disservice by convincing the likes of Schumer that he is funny, engaging, clever, effective, etc. but who are we to break them out of their reverie?
As you say, Schumer always acts out of panic and desperation and gives a pro forma response to polls. Earlier this week he suddenly developed an aversion to political correctness...or at least claimed to. Obviously they’ve had a scare. The Kavanaugh hearings could not have gone worse for them. They lost the fight, their tactics were exposed (not least because most of them are old and lazy and artless), their hardcore supporters put on a bizarre display that the media dutifully amplified only to discover that 90% of America regardless of party was disgusted by the antics.
If there were any real momentum for the left then we would know and see it. Not even the most partisan media outlets will risk such a prediction.
