U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R) says he needs to be in Montana this weekend for his daughter's wedding, throwing Saturday's vote on Kavanaugh in doubt - NBCMT
That might be unworkable from a national security standpoint, but I like your thinking and there certainly are equal alternatives (transportation-wise).
This is a no-brainer, only someone just sentenced for a violent felony should be denied the opp to give away his daughter in marriage at a long-planned wedding ceremony.
If McConnell is unable to adjust the voting, Daines should be given access to the oversized craft that Pelosi used to travel coast to coast every weekend.
I can’t imagine something won’t be worked out. If democrats had any amount of that “comity” they all talk about, they would agree that the vote could happen on Friday so that Daines could make his daughter’s wedding. No one’s vote is likely to change in the extra 12 hours.
AP is the source. Still resisting they are. How dumb are some folks here?
Mitch McConnell is supposed to schedule the nation's business around the social calendars of individual Senators' children?
Good grief...
There will be no ‘comity’ ... the Dems would see this as another chance to attempt to scuttle Kav. They will take ALL 30 hours available for debate after the cloture vote, I’m sure. If agreed, the 30 hours can be dispensed with entirely, but the Dems will never go for that.
Daines said he won’t be present at all on Saturday so that’s problematic - the vote was going to be at 4-5 pm on Saturday. Mitch might have to make the vote later tomorrow, which would push the vote to Sunday if Mitch held everyone for the weekend. Of course, everyone wants to be in their home district campaigning, so being in DC is going to be unpopular. Mitch has threatened to keep the Senate in session over a weekend before - he might do it again.
What time zone is the wedding in? How many hours different than D.C.? How long can they hold the vote open?
Closure on Friday, not final.
Oh...my bad. It’s now the Wash Post that is reporting this garbage. Like the guy is going to MISS the vote......Fake News.
Never heard of this Daines creep until just this second!
Geez!
Dems talk about comity, but only require it of Republicans.
You have to be pre-qualified with a physical and some training before riding in a two-seat fighter. Not so on a transport.
So.. if Flake is running scared again and is going to likely be a No vote, and Daines is running away at voting time, that gives the No votes 50 and the Yea votes 49, no matter what the Sisters do.
After all these gyrations, it comes down to a few untrustworthy Repubs.
Can’t he get a special deal where he could vote Friday and leave it with the Senate Majority leader and have the vote cast Sat? Or have one of his top assistants cast the vote for him.
I suppose. Mitch better get that vote started by 8 a.m. that’s 5 a.m. in Montana. That ort to do it!
This, from FNC..
Because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., started the clock Thursday evening, Republicans cannot delay that vote unless they secure the consent of all 100 senators. (50 affirmative votes are needed for Friday morning’s procedural vote to invoke cloture, meaning to formally end debate and move forward to Saturday’s final vote.)
If there was ever a time we needed ALL hands on deck, its now. Daines, piss off, you cowardly POS.
Have there been any comments about this from any Republican Senators?????
It’s FAKE news. The wimpy hand wringers on the site are up to their usual antics.
No.
Could he charter a private plane to take him back and forth?
Yes.
He has no excuse.
No, he has to do HIS JOB.
How did you determine its fake news? Daines office was quoted as not know until yesterday when the vote would be because of the fluidity of the investigation.
