A Wyoming hunting guide was fatally mauled and his client was injured when a pair of grizzly bears attacked them Friday, officials said.
{snip} Uptain and Chubon were attacked by bears as they field dressed the elk they had shot Thursday but were only able to find Friday, officials said. The bears aggressively charged the men and didnt touch the dead elk, Teton County officials said.
{snip} Authorities later euthanized two grizzly bears, a mother and a cub, who wildlife managers believe killed guide Mark Uptain and wounded his client Corey Chubon near the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks border, according to USA Today.

Because they killed a human being.
The Hunters got Hunted. Oh, well.
Bow season for elk probably in Wyoming. Used to be illegal to go armed (gun) during bow season in Wy.
Don’t know current regs as I’ve not live there in 14 yrs.
The bereaved elk family is enjoying a good laugh.
The deadly incident came weeks after a federal judge halted Wyoming state officials plans to hold a grizzly hunt this month, according to USA Today. The hunt was put on hold until Oct. 1.
I can only imagine how horrific this was, Sy Gilliland, a hunting guide and spokesman for grizzly hunters in the area, told the newspaper. You've got a bear population that's basically un-hunted, is an apex predator, and has no fear of humans.
So...there's lots of extra bears, apparently...who now have no fear of humans. Probably important info for those heading out that way to hunt this Fall.
Of course, it was an Obama-appointed Judge (and the usual suspects) that halted the hunt.
Here's the URL for a news report on the ruling:

Absolutely. Like it or not you are in competition with other predators for your kill.
Too many bears. Thanks too many leftie , emotional Judges.

The Hunters got Hunted. Oh, well.
Ive never been confronted by a bear, black or brown. But, if I should ever hunt in bear country I believe I would have as my primary bear gun a 12 guage semi-auto chambered for 3 shells with plug removed loaded with 3 magnum slugs. Backup would be .454 Cusell. Also, would never hunt alone.
Because it’s generally not a good idea To let bears that have acquired a taste for human flesh to roam around
Around here in northern Alberta, if you shoot something, be prepared to shoot again in a few minutes. It’s like ringing a dinner bell.
What a terrible way to go.
Hunting alone once I was gutting an elk, very tough job solo, and it was hands down the scariest time of my life. I had my 44 mag in a chest rig but knew I wouldn't have had time to use it if a bear got to me.
I got down to the road and into cell service and called a couple buddies to come help me get it out. We used a sled as there was fresh snowfall and we were going down hill but it still took hours to navigate the dead fall and get to my truck.
Never go hunting elk alone now unless I'm in my backyard tree stand down in my creek bottom maybe 400 yards from the house. Still get the willies even then because Montana is bear country.
I live in rough country ... miles from pavement and up on the side of a Montana mountain. Been looking for downed animals the next day several times. It happens. Sometimes you just flat run outta daylight and stumbling around in the dark is a bad idea. You know of what you speak.
Another fed judge bends over for the environmental wackos....
Two years ago a fed judge stopped the attempts of Michigan's DNR to control the growing population of cormorants......
As a kid growing up in northern Michigan, I had never even heard of a cormorant let alone seen one. Now they're everywhere
So, Pavlov’s dogs were evolving when they heard the bell and got food?
No, that’s not a new genetic trait that was not there before ( def of evolution), but rather the simple and common definition of learning.
Bears and other creatures learn from experience. In this case, they likely did not hear the shot and come to sound, being the next day and all, the elk was not already touched but rather smelled the dead elk and wanted breakfast, the hunters were incidental.
Back to the topic....
I’d like to re-establish grizzlies (and wolves and rattlesnakes) in Manhattan and DC.
Make sure the critters have full hunting rights with no interference. A critter needs to eat.
There are more bear attacks than a person thinks. I have seen grizzlies up close in BC, and my guide was chewed up by one years ago that was wounded. The guy was a tough SOB, had his leg in a cast and finished tracking it down and killed it on crutches.
He also had a guide working for him that was killed by a grizzly about 15 years ago. About the time I got back from BC, a logger was killed in the area where I hunted when his truck broke down at dusk and he walked up on a mama and cub in the dark.
Now we have more information. It appears that there guide was armed only with bear spray, used it, and it was ineffective.
