“The Hunters got Hunted. Oh, well.”

I’ve never been confronted by a bear, black or brown. But, if I should ever hunt in bear country I believe I would have as my primary bear gun a 12 guage semi-auto chambered for 3” shells with plug removed loaded with 3” magnum slugs. Backup would be .454 Cusell. Also, would never hunt alone.

Also, would never hunt alone.

Hunting alone once I was gutting an elk, very tough job solo, and it was hands down the scariest time of my life. I had my 44 mag in a chest rig but knew I wouldn't have had time to use it if a bear got to me.

I got down to the road and into cell service and called a couple buddies to come help me get it out. We used a sled as there was fresh snowfall and we were going down hill but it still took hours to navigate the dead fall and get to my truck.

Never go hunting elk alone now unless I'm in my backyard tree stand down in my creek bottom maybe 400 yards from the house. Still get the willies even then because Montana is bear country.
