How Europe is plotting to skirt Trump's sanctions on Iran

WASHINGTON — America's allies in Europe are plotting ways to bypass President Donald Trump's sanctions on Iran as they work to keep the nuclear deal alive without the United States.

With a second round of U.S. sanctions set to take effect in November, European officials are working at cross-purposes with Trump's "maximum pressure" campaign as they try to preserve as much business as possible with Iran. The goal is to persuade Iran's leaders to stay in the deal for a few more years — perhaps long enough for Trump to be replaced and for a new U.S. president to rejoin the deal.

Among the creative workarounds under discussion in Brussels and other capitals: Devising an alternative — free from U.S. influence — to the current electronic system used to transfer money from place to place, European officials told NBC News. And since commercial banks must stop handling transactions with Iran or face U.S. penalties, European countries are considering using their own central banks to transfer funds to Iran, wagering that Trump wouldn't go so far as to sanction an ally's central bank.

“wagering that Trump wouldn’t go so far as to sanction an ally’s central bank.”

I’ll take that bet.

Central banks need to be collapsed. A nation’s currency should not be controlled by a private, for-profit business run by globalists who don’t care about the nation that uses that currency.

I hope they’re responsible enough to take responsibility for any decision Trump then makes.

Obama’s Iran deal is just the gift that keeps on giving. Pay now, verify never, get nothing for paying, can’t get out of it. Brilliant.

What Europe does is their business. I really don’t care. They are sovereign states and that is it.

America’s allies in Europe...

Lost me there.

Unless they were including Eastern Europe and they decidedly are not.

Western Europe would #### us for a dollar in a minute.

What a waste we sacrificed our best young men, twice, for them. Our heritage roots, or not.

Would have probably been better off for all of them if Germany took most of it over in wwi so it could have still had balls enough to stop the fuching communists earlier in the century, and then for the muslim scum overriding everything now.

We saved Europe and that helped preserve our own security but that wasn’t the only reason America fought the World Wars. Now, Europe itself threatens America’s security. Maybe it finally is time to pull out of Europe. Let them fend for themselves. If they can’t save themselves, what use are they to anyone?

Europeans need to stand on their own feet and fight for their culture. I fear we are coddling them to the point of cultural suicide. They need to feel threatened so that they will act.

This will be as successful to the extent the US looks the other way. Europe may find additional adjustments necessary to the Trump administration.

I'd question to what extent WW1 preserved our security. I think it might have been better had they been left to settle their own quarrels. Though I acknowledge that might have provided an opening to Marxists beyond Russia. But that wasn't an issue at the time.

“Europe” may be plotting that way, but European corporations are pulling away from Iran. They know it will hurt their bottom line.
