If you are tired of Google and Silicon Valley censorship, I suggest that you do as I do:
1. For search, I use duckduckgo.com. You can add this as an app to your phone and use it on your PC as well. It acts like the old google search and claims not to track or show bias.
2. For my browser, instead of Chrome, Explorer or Safari, I use Brave.com. Again, no tracking and no bias that I am aware of.
3. For news, I go to realclearpolitics.com and its sister sites such as realclearworld.com. Here you will find links to high quality articles from a diverse selection of websites. Both right and leftwing views are represented.
4. For a moderated selection of conservative and neutral leaning articles, I go to freerepublic.com, which is supported by reader contributions and has no advertising. Readers upload all content including links and excerpts from articles.
5. For California news, I go to presscalifornia.com for California news and opinion.
Fixed it
I love brave but I am having an out of control scrolling problem. Have you run into it?
I use it on Win 7. I have a scrolling problem. But so do other platforms.

I sometimes use the Dogpile meta to punch up poor searches.
Google searches have turned into a joke.
I used to be able to search my own posts on FR. Fr gets perhaps a page now.
The creators and current owners are two very different entities.

I seriously question whether there isn’t some backhand deal these engines have with Google.
The internet kings are notorious for cooperating with each other.

I’ve been using IE for years. I can never figure out how to transfer all my favorites to a new browser.
I sometimes use Opera. It has a free built-in VPN.
haa
I have VPN but FR blocks me when I use it.
I can look at the main pages but not individual posts and definitely can’t post articles myself when on it. I get a 503 error.
do you use PIA here on FR?
I can never get to individual posts. I get a 503 error.

I had the same problem when I started using PIA. I sent JohnRob a FReepmail about this and he responded, "We might be throttling some VPN providers due to attacks."
I pick PIA IP addresses that don't give a 503 error. Right now I'm using US Houston, 205.251.151.26. I've also had good luck with US Atlanta, US East, US Midwest and some others. Pretty much try it and see.
Thanks
I think mine usually went for Texas.

Do you have problems anywhere else? Sometimes I get blocked by Google and others and have to “decloak” in order to use it. Amazon usually makes me enter a code they email me. I think it depends upon how much abuse, spam, hacking activity, etc., is coming from that network. I would freepmail the admins and see what’s up. There is a small price of inconvenience to be paid for security and anonymity.
PIA is very good. They actually have been dragged into court where they testified that they keep no records except your email address and when your last payment was.
Same here.
Bookmarking.
That is really strange. I have used PIA for years. I do not remember seeing a 503 error. If I ever did, it went away immediately. I usually use US East and Atlanta. BTW, I am on PIA even as I write this. Very odd.
Google has taken to looking at your search terms and deciding what you really want is something else. All I can think of is that I use search terms that, based on my 40 years in the software business, will give results using a simple text comparison, but in fact AI analyses the terms as though I said them to another human and comes up with different criteria. Another possibility is that they dork up the results until you log in. Maybe someone with a google account can speak to that. Anyway, DDG is working well for me and I avoid google whenever I can.
