Betsy DeVos’s $40 million yacht set adrift by vandals

A $40 million yacht owned by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was reportedly untied from the dock at a northern Ohio marina and set adrift.

The captain of the 163-foot yacht, named "Seaquest," called the Huron Police Department early Sunday morning when the crew realized the boat was floating in the Huron Boat Basin, The Toledo Blade reported.

The yacht hit a dock, causing between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage, the newspaper added, citing a police report.

Investigators are hoping surveillance footage will show who untied the yacht from the dock.

It is one of 10 boats owned by DeVos and her family, according to the newspaper.

It is unclear why the Michigan family's boat was in northern Ohio, the Blade noted.

DeVos is one of the wealthiest members of President Trump’s Cabinet.

Business Insider reported in February that DeVos and her husband, former Amway CEO Dick DeVos, have an estimated net worth around $1.3 billion.

It was only 10 million when they bought it.

"...a ship of that size..."

It is the same reason I don’t wish to stand in my street and get hit by a car even doing 4 mph. The injuries would hurt.

I read in a trade journal that yacht captains are basically paid according to the length of the yacht (i.e. the article cited $1,000 per foot in length as being pretty much the standard for yacht captains). That’s a fine income.

You know, I just can’t see Jesus being ok with a $40,000,000 boat.

I can’t see Jesus caring one way or another. Just where do you think He draws the line on the cost of a boat? How many people were gainfully employed because of the manufacture of the boat? How about the money made by the crew of the boat?

The Lord said it is harder for a rich person to enter heaven, not impossible.

I heard back in the ‘80’s they tithed 90% and lived on 10%, if that’s true, they deserve everything they’ve got!!!

I wouldn’t judge!

“It is unclear why the Michigan family’s boat was in northern Ohio, the Blade noted.”

The Blade seems to be hinting that there is a nefarious reason that the boat was in northern Ohio!

That boat is owned by a United States of America citizen, free to be sailed anywhere it is legal to sail.

Envy is dripping from the pages of the Blade and some who reply here at Free Republic.

She wanted it, she could afford it, and she bought it with her own, hard-earned money. That’s capitalism. More power to her.

“how is that any different than a 40 million dollar Church? Or the enormous cathedrals, vatican’s, Etc?”

I guess the difference is that the $40 mil she spent is $40 mil she made honestly.

A $40 million church, cathedral, etc., was built using money people donated to further the Lord’s work. (Or it was extorted from people by greedy con men using God as an excuse.) Then the money was abused by spending it on wretched excess. THAT is horrible!!

There is wealth and there is obscene wealth.

Exactly. Let's get some guns, go over there, and take some of it from DeVos. She doesn't need it. She didn't build all that anyway, somebody else did!

(Who needs that pesky 10th Commandment, anyway?)

SOOOO—What valyue would you be comfortable with?

IF they earned the money & it didn’t involve criminal activity, it is their right to spend it as they wish.

Are you equally upset about the number of high end expensive homes that LeBron James owns?

Anything that Beyonce & J-Z own?

JIMMAH CARTER did that.

His envy of more successful people was always available as a large chip on his shoulder.

Married to Rich, son of Richard Devos Sr. About just short a dozen boats for company business associates to enjoy. Elizabeth probably doesn’t claim any particular one as the article implies.

Maybe that was God’s way of telling her to get rid of the boat.
