A $40 million yacht owned by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was reportedly untied from the dock at a northern Ohio marina and set adrift.
The captain of the 163-foot yacht, named "Seaquest," called the Huron Police Department early Sunday morning when the crew realized the boat was floating in the Huron Boat Basin, The Toledo Blade reported.
The yacht hit a dock, causing between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage, the newspaper added, citing a police report.
Investigators are hoping surveillance footage will show who untied the yacht from the dock.
It is one of 10 boats owned by DeVos and her family, according to the newspaper.
It is unclear why the Michigan family's boat was in northern Ohio, the Blade noted.
DeVos is one of the wealthiest members of President Trumps Cabinet.
Business Insider reported in February that DeVos and her husband, former Amway CEO Dick DeVos, have an estimated net worth around $1.3 billion.
Except for the carpenters who made the cabinets.
King Solomon was richer than that.
Abraham, God’s Friend, was a very wealthy man for his time. He had thousands of cattle, sheep, goats, camels and concubines plus servants to feed and take care of them all.
He also had plenty of weapons to protect them and was able to mount a rescue party to get his nephew and his household back from kidnappers..............
Me too. She doesn’t need this crap....................
I know this dockage well, it is in Huron, Oh. about eight nautical miles east from Sandusky/Cedar point. We have docked there many times and quite frequently larger yachts would be tied up on the wall, which was accessible for them, a good in and out with maneuverability. What is odd is that there is a lot of activity on that wall, lots of boating traffic, a restaurant right beside the area where they would have had to be docked, people always on the wall. So I dont know how vandals were able to untie a yacht this size without being noticed.
I feel the same way about PDJT; however, I’m convinced divine intervention was involved to defeat the vote fraud specialist party of the pantsuit princess. That man is saving our country one win at a time! :)
I guarantee you there is camera video of the perps................
"...without being noticed..."
There is wealth and there is obscene wealth.
and it’s all in the eye of the beholder ...
obscenity is in the eye of the beholder................
It's amazing how well that works with typical building security (provided there are no physical barriers like locked doors). If you walk into a secure area briskly, like you belong there, the security guards tend to leave you alone. You also have to be well dressed.
When my wife was in the hospital last year, you were supposed to sign in at the front reception area and get a badge. I never did that. I just walked right up to the elevator banks in my business suit and nobody ever challenged me. I guess they figured I was a doctor or some other important person.
Then one time, I show up in casual clothes and I get the "Can I help you sir" treatment before I even get halfway across the atrium and they made me sign in like any other dweeb.
I wonder if there was any other form of security besides the eyes of the public and possibly cameras?
I used to keep my boat at the World’s Fair Marina in Flushing Bay, NYC in the 80s. There was a securityt firm contracted by the marina but even so, we were experiencing a rash of thefts. It was at that time that myself and other owners realized exactly what our problem was. We were expecting low paid, unarmed square badgers to possibly put their own safety at risk to protect our substantial assets. Not a wise move. After talks with the marina operators, it was decided to hire guards with dogs. It’s a lot easier for a guard to unclip a leash and a much faster response. The thefts ceased.
The author has never heard of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Or the Panama Canal, for that matter. A yacht like that is used for more than bass fishing.
I dont know about security cameras in Huron, its rather rural. There isnt a marina there for large yachts, just the tie-up on a starboard wall. I guess all they would have had to do was slip the lines from the cleats. Whenever we were there and a big yacht rolled in, everyone there would try to get as close as possible to look at them, so I guess it would not be unusual to have someone that close to do it. The article said there was 10,000.00 damage which is nothing on a vessel this size.
Did you ever give a moment’s thought to the very good living the construction of that yacht furnished to a large group of skilled builders?
Did you ever give a moment’s thought to the very good living the mooring and servicing of that yacht is giving to the skilled people who tend and maintain it year after year?
Did you ever think that the owners worked for the money to buy that yacht and the taxes they pay for the ownership?
This is from the owner of a 26 footer who is well aware of the money that trails behind every boat, large or small.
I’ve heard that a boat is a hole in the water where all the money goes ...
Toledo ain’t that far from Michigan. Especially by water. Author needs a history & a geography lesson.
I remember when Jimmy Carter’s luxury tax killed the US Boat builders. Cars above $30k were suddenly leased rather than purchased.
