Russia is planning to expand its Syrian bases at Tartus and Hemeimeem to Libya.
The possible Russian move into Libya represents the most recent failure stemming from the policies of President Obama that backed Islamist rebels who overthrew and killed Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.
Mr. Obama has said that the failure to prepare for the aftermath of the ouster of Gadhafi was the worst mistake of his presidency. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also came under fire for failing to provide security for Americans who were attacked and killed in Benghazi after Gadhafis fall.
The push for a Russian military presence in Libya is being led by retired Maj. Gen. Khalifah Haftar, whose militia forces, the Libyan National Army, control eastern Libya. Russian private military forces have been operating in eastern Libya since March 2017, including the RSB Group that has deployed several dozen armed mercenaries to join forces with Haftar militias.
News reports from Libya stated recently that the RSB Group mercenaries are engaged in advance work, scouting locations for a Russian military base in Tobruk or Benghazi.

Any chance Trump can install Khadafy’s son, the bald headed one?
Somebody has to stabilize that country.
Especially since it’s the US that broke it and walked away.
“We Came, We Saw, He Died.”
Gee, I wonder if PDJT will associate this move with the disaster of the Obola presidency, and do so at every opportunity?
Maybe Russia can connect the dots and figure out which US politicians were involved with arms from Benghazi being shipped to terrorists in Syria.
What sort of aftermath could Obama have prepared for after bombing the snot out of them? “Hey I’ve got a Peace Prize, so that should cause peace, right?”
You don’t think those were just ragheads that attacked us at Benghazi, do you?
Perhaps...Russians are moving all over. They are spending a lot of money trying to destabilize a lot of countries.
These stories just happen to appear ahead of the Trump-Putin meeting put out by the “Washington Times”.
RINO inside the beltway propaganda.
A Rod Rosenstein Production.
I guess the check to the Clinton Foundation cleared. Now we know why Hillary and Sid pushed so hard to get Kaddafi out. Wonder how much Libya and the soft under belly of Europe costed Putin? I’m sure he considered it a bargain.
The eight years of Jarret/Obama continue to fester.
I never understood why the Obama regime went after Ghadafi. Why? They had fits when we ousted Saddam Hussein and “destabilized” Iraq, why are they suddenly going after dictators who were his equivalent?

The prospect of instability in Libya caused by the overthrow of Khadaffi by the Muslim Brotherhood, is the reason why I didn’t think it was wise to arm and fund these Islamic louts.
Obama, McCain, Clinton, Graham, (possibly Rubio) each thought we should arm and fund them. Soros already was, and had helped take down the leadership in Tunisia too. And then came Egypt, Mubarak a long term ally of the United States.
The mess in Syria is also attributable to these same brain-trusts. “Oh, we’ll just fund the good al Qaeda.” WTH???
Suddenly with more arms and funds in the region, ISIS mysteriously sprang up.
Way to go goobers...
If they think they'll find any of Qaddafi's Gold Bullion, they'll have to follow the sewer line from the Benghazi Consulate Annex to the Clinton Foundation basement in the Deep Swamp, where it empties.
Excellent observation!
Syria, and especially Libya, are two major oil producers in the Mideast that are currently in seriously chaotic states, possibly ripe for picking. Certainly there’s no coincidence there, it’s a great situation for Russia, they know that the West will have to act in major or minor defense of these areas, and yet Russia is so much closer and so much more present to these areas. In addition the US isn’t going to be viewed as any kind of friendly anything in these areas. So welcome to the problem children of the 21st century, kids.
So Bush got him to give up his nukes, then Obama took advantage of his weakened state to come in and kill him. Think NK doesn't look at this and think: Sure, maybe I could trust Trump, but how can I trust whatever Democrat will inevitably follow him? When a Democrat betrays a leader that Republicans had learned to deal with (I'm no historian, but I bet the Shah of Iran fell into that category) they teach the world that America will always turn on you.
Partly because McCain and a couple of other Republicans urged him to. So did Hillary. So did Soros.
Soros was already pumping money into the region by one of his satellite embassies (so to speak, one of his offices on foreign soil).
He was carrying out his own foreign policy.
Obama got sucked in, not that he wasn’t easily on board.
By this point Khadaffi was also a mellowed out old man, not looking for any more fights. He had turned over his nuclear program. He was no threat, and as I understand it, not oppressing his own citizens either.
Democrats don’t have any grasp of global dynamics, unless it’s related to turning a nation socialist. They don’t know who our friends are and why. They don’t know who our enemies are and why.
Back in Reagan’s day, sure Khadaffi was a problem. Now they thought they would gain brownie points by taking him out. Why? He was no longer a threat, and heaven only knew what would follow him on.
As for Hussein in Iraq, he was not mellowed out and was still looking for fights. Big big difference between the two there.
JULY 2017...

President Trump called Russia a destabilizing influence in Europe and the Middle East, and urged it to join the community of responsible nations, in his strongest remarks yet against the regime of Vladimir Putin, whom he is scheduled to meet Friday in Hamburg for the first time.
His remarks in Warsaws Krasinski Square, which marks the 1944 Warsaw uprising against the Nazis, came after the U.S. agreed to sell Patriot missiles to Poland. The president also used the opportunity to reiterate the NATO commitment to mutual defense, a declaration he did not make during the NATO summit in May, prompting consternation among U.S. allies wary of Russias ambitions.
To those who would criticize our tough stance, I would point out that the United States has demonstratednot merely with its words but with its actionsthat we stand firmly behind Article 5, the mutual-defense commitment, Trump said Thursday. Words are easy, but actions are what matters. And for its own protection, Europe, and you know this, everybody knows this, everybody has to know this, Europe must do more.
Trump has repeatedly said NATO members must spend more on defensea position in line with past U.S. administrations. But he has been criticized because he appeared to suggest U.S. commitment to mutual defense was predicated on its allies defense spending. ...
