And a favorite of conservatives gunning for an immigration fight with the Left...
The coup de grace for this group is his dissent in Fogo de Chao v. Dept. of Homeland Security (D.C. Circuit 2014).
The popular Brazilian steakhouse chain was, in effect, granting waiters high skilled visas, the memo argues. While the D.C. Circuit absurdly reversed the Department of Homeland Security and granted them visas, the memo highlights Kavanaughs dissent, which argued: At bottom, that seems to be at least part of what is going on in this casenamely, Fogos desire to cut labor costs masquerading as specialized knowledge. But under the provision of the immigration laws at issue here, mere economic expediency does not authorize an employer to displace American workers for foreign workers....
Others are questioning Barrett for a statement she made during the presidential campaign. Before he appointed her to the 7th Circuit, Barrett publicly called Donald Trump a mixed bag on potential judicial picks. And immigration hardliners note she has no record, either way, on their core concern.

Kavanaugh seems solid on stopping the invasion of the US and getting around regulations for hiring non-citizens. I'd think he's the better choice. JMHO
Boycott Fogos and go with Cavanaugh.
Kavanaugh very strong on guns
I would not pick a judge on a singular issue, be it immigration or otherwise. The federalist society folks would not disagre with Kavanaugh on his position on the misuse of the H1B visa, and just because a judge who is a federalist member, like Amy Barrett, was not siting in on that decision, it bears less weight on how she might have ruled than does her avowed federlist principles, a good part of which is against the judiciary making itself into a superlegislature.
That Kavanaugh is really part of the Bush family stable, clerked for Kennedy and how broadly he sought to stretch the grounds for impeaching Clinton (which I never agreed with) do not make my heart warm with positive anticipation for Trump. I think he could be a Trojan horse against Trump at SCOTUS if the Dems manage to take the house and vote for impeachment. That the media is now all pushing Kavanaugh tells me the deep state is very much behind him.
Wasn’t it his anti-injunction opinion that Roberts used to give us Obama care?
Where is Kavanaugh on other immigration issues besides the H1B. Is that one issue enough, as to the rest of the Constiutional issues on immigration. The case really not “constitutionally” difficult as the employer was very clearly abusing the very demands of the H1B, which require that the H1B recipient brings “specialized knoweldge” the employer could not otherwise obtain, and the employer in the case was hiring for kitchen help. How does that simple matter make Kavanagh a Conservative legal night in shining armour on immigration. Do not forget he is really part of the Bush family stable, with background and experience with the father and the son. No friends of Trump are they. Is Kavanaugh a Trojan horse being wrapped up by the deep state and the media now as a “gift” to Trump??? Why are so many Conservatives buying the promo??
So he’s very strong on immigration and gun rights, which are probably the two major social issues likely to reach the Supreme Court in the next few years.
I’m starting to think he’s the best choice of the group. Not perfect, mind you, but neither are any of the others.
What you want is not a judge that is solid on this issue or that issue. But a judge that is solid on obeying the law including our constitution. And Barrett is solid on that.
At this point in our Country’s history, I only care about two things. The first is the 2nd Amendment. A 5th liberal to the court and a house win in November and we are not just screwed, we are totally screwed. The second is immigration.
The thought of unchecked illegal immigration, the crime that would come along with it and having an overturned 2nd Amendment scares me more than anything on this planet. Worrying about overturning Roe v Wade is so far down on the list of things to worry about right now.
Illegal immigration and the Bill of Rights are the two biggies for me.
Yes, Kavanaugh gave the SCOTUS a roadmap to accepting Obamacare, and Roberts used it in his formulation about a tax vs a penalty.
Kavanaugh is really part of the Bush family stable. I think he could be a Trojan horse, wrapped as a “Conservtive” gift to Trump, and presently, promoted by too many interests for my taste - smells funny to me.

Must be why Tokyo Rove likes him. That’s enough for me to hope it’s NOT him. This country can’t afford any more Trojan Horses!
Don’t get hung up on his “political associations” - you have to read his body of work. He is a brilliant jurist with a clear record. We view Obamacare as politics - he took a literal interpretation of it under the law, which is what judges are supposed to do. Too many of us (me included) keep wanting a judge or President to undo what congress must do - Obamacare. That is NOT the way our system is supposed to work.
The fact that he is well-liked by members of the Bush administration and clearly very personable is irrelevant to me because he has the most extensive (and impressive) record of the three. You have to read his opinions. Considering that this judge replaces Kennedy, I would be happy with any of the three. Trump is knocking it out of the park with judicial nominations across the board - bigly.
I agree completely. The nominee’s abortion stance has to be a factor, but it can’t be the *only* factor, especially with the libs hell-bent on their social/cultural crusade against the foundations of the country itself.
“Must be why Tokyo Rove likes him”
That I did not know, and had I known it I would have been against Kavanaugh sooner.
I think the Bush family still has minions in the Conservative media venues and they were instructed to play up Kavanaugh to the Conservative base. I just feel if the Bushes are promoting the guy I have to question whether Trump should take him or not.
“impeaching Clinton (which I never agreed with)”
For the love of God, the man is a murderer. You need higher crimes than that?
Thank you for that well thought out response. We’re basically on the same page. I’m a bit leerier about than you are about females in positions of power. How many in the US Senate, HOR and Governorships have let us down after exhibiting so much promise, in campaigns and in prior experiences?
“For the love of God, the man is a murderer. You need higher crimes than that?”
His impeachment trial had nothing to do with murder. Trials deal with facts, not our accepted beliefs.
