(5) Do we really want a fourth female SC judge? Keep in mind when Ginsburg leaves (one way or another) there will be an outcry to choose a woman to replace her, so it would be good to have the best female choice available for then.

1. There are a lot of organizations worse than Bloomberg that despise her.
2. I know a lot of Catholic moms with seven kids whom I would have taken or Souter and Kennedy. When they are good, they are REALLY good.
3. My wife and I looked into adopting Haitian children. The paperwork killed us. Two of our children are black, they are great and we love them.
4. One of the plusses is tat she could be around for four decades, waiting a few years neutralizes that.
5. A. I'm okay with a fourth female judge, if she's good. I also HATE characterizing abortion decisions as men vs. women, as that isn't what it is at all in real life.
B. You raise a solid point about waiting for Ginsburg for the replacement. I accept that as an exceptional point.
C. I can meet you half way, and have Trump propose Kavanaugh, and if he is shot down as being too much the "white man" immediately bring up Barrett as a counter. Sort of as reverse-Harriet Miers (except Kavanaugh is competent).

Thank you for that well thought out response. We’re basically on the same page. I’m a bit leerier about than you are about females in positions of power. How many in the US Senate, HOR and Governorships have let us down after exhibiting so much promise, in campaigns and in prior experiences?

A fourth decade of a Centrist is better than 3 decades of a solid Conservative? By that "logic", Trump should appoint a third year Law student, and hope for a 6th decade of unknown results.

Justice Kavanaugh is only 7 years older, and has authored 300 more opinions than Barrett. I'll trade 7 years in exchange for a MUCH more reliable track record.

(I really liked the idea of Justice Robert Young Jr getting picked, and making a Court where the 2 most conservative Justices happen to be black. Woulda been cool, but he is 21 years older than Justice Barrett... THAT'S a bit too much to sacrifice... but 7 years is not.)

And, as the old wisdom goes: men never change, and women never stop changing. Justice Barrett shows a lot of promise, but I would want a LONGER proven track record from a female Justice for this very reason. If she was 7 years older than Kavanugh, with 300 more established opinions, then I'd be screaming her name from the rooftops... but she isn't.
