WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration plans to revoke guidelines that encourage considering race in the college admissions process as a way of promoting diversity, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
The guidelines, put in place in the Obama administration in 2011 and 2016, put forth legal recommendations that Trump officials contend mislead schools to believe that legal forms of affirmative action are simpler to achieve than the law allows, the Journal reported, citing two people familiar with the plans.
Trump administration officials plan to argue the guidelines go beyond what the Supreme Court has decided on the issue.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled universities may use affirmative action to help minority applicants get into college. Conservatives have said such programs can hurt white people and Asian-Americans.
The Justice Department under Republican President Donald Trump has been investigating a complaint by more than 60 Asian-American organizations that say Harvard Universitys policies are discriminatory because they limit the acceptance of Asian-Americans.

A waste of money. It will be overturned in court in a week.
However, if this is a trolling effort... well played.
I suspect the later.
You just described my last job to a T.
I was to train my new boss. By train, I was to do her work while she went to lunch. I left instead.
I read that with an English accent. No idea why.
It also helped Liz "the redskin" Warren get a job at Harvard.
“The best part is when they laugh, saying that he is cant control himself and that he made a gaffe, and this time he has gone too far, and it is the end.”
indeed. i figured out long ago that Trump’s “gaffs” were deliberate and calculated to throw gasoline onto the leftist media fire ... especially when the embers appeared to be temporarily dying out ...
“I liken it to a 1950s NFL coach (outside of the great Joe Stydahar) finding himself facing a 1980s West Coast offense, thinking they cant possibly win the game with all these crazy passes all over the field.”
a very apt analogy ... and applies directly to Hillary’s failed campaign, rooted in the 20th century with billions being spent on expensive, useless TV ads, while rejecting embedded facebook specialists who were already busily teaching Brad Parscale how to generate hundreds of thousands of individualized facebook ads per hour, ads that targeted individual cities, counties, neighborhoods and even individual voters ...
It is what they see happening in the charter schools in NYC where blacks were admitted ahead of Asians who scored higher, and the Asians rightfully went ballistic.
It was two protected groups being pitted against each other.
I do see it as an indicator that the Democrat Party are going to run into issues as the demographics change.
They are going to begin to run out of aggrieved populations of minorities because eventually they will have to be pitted against each other...then what?
Well, Oliver Twist was British, so I think you’re good!
Continuing to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
There should be a Constitutional Amendment for this to be honest. Nothing screams discrimination like racial quotas and accepting the low-end of the bell curve as if it equates to the opposite higher end.
Equality under the law. What a radical concept!
If you read the article it sounds like the complaint came to the Trump administration after the election...
However, conveniently omitted is the fact the multi-group complaint actually dates back to May 2015.

It would be nice if simple article could at least present simple details.
THANK YOU President Trump!
Get earplugs. The herd will be shouting ‘racism’ at decibels never before dreamed of.
California Prop 209 ping. Thanks mandaladon.
Watch for the liberal fireworks before the real Fireworks on the 4th!! I love it!!!
Winning!
Mean-spirited comment; and if you're going to call others dumb, make sure you spell correctly as well as get your facts straight. Affirmative action legislation goes back to the 1960s. It didn't start with Obama, nor does the Executive Branch get to decide how the SCOTUS would rule.
NTOWY
good cause someone PLEASE TELL ME WTF IS SO GOOD ABOUT DIVERSITY?!?!?!?
Does anyone newsperson or politician have the balls to ask just once “what’s so good about it?”
why is it needed? what other countries worry about “diversity”?
china? japan? russia?
Wonder how many Jewish people the Harvard Economics department have now!?!?!?
