~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Coast Guard Yard, Maryland The United States Coast Guard Yard or just Coast Guard Yard is a United States Coast Guard operated shipyard located on Curtis Bay in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, just south of the Baltimore city limits. It is the Coast Guard's sole shipbuilding and major repair facility, and part of the Coast Guard's core industrial base and fleet support operations. Its annual budget is $88 million. For over a century, the United States Coast Guard Yard has built, repaired and renovated ships in Baltimore, Maryland, for the U. S. Coast Guard. It is the service's sole shipbuilding and major repair facility.
The Coast Guard Yard celebrated its centennial in 1999 and recognized the shipyard's outstanding "Service to the Fleet" since being founded on the shores of south Baltimore in April, 1899. The yard's centennial focused customer attention on the shipyard's commitment to maritime excellence, honored the yard's past and present work force and sought public recognition of the accomplishment and goals of the Coast Guard's only shipyard. The yard is the sole source for major repair of naval weapons systems used by the Coast Guard. Topping the list is the repair of the MK 75 76 mm guns and includes a contract with the Naval Sea Systems Command for the overhaul of the Saudi Arabian MK 75 weapons systems. The yard expanded its market base in the mid-1990s to include the overhaul of the Paxman engine, the main propulsion engine in the 110' patrol boat. The work is considered a primary example of core work for the shipyard. The yard has excelled in its capability to bring its expertise to the customer rather than the customer coming into the yard for service. The yard has built a celebrated reputation for taking its skills "on-the-road" to the coast guard fleet worldwide. The yard became the first organization in the United States government to achieve ISO 9001 certification in 1995 and ISO 9001 recertification in 1998. ISO 9001 is a set of internationally recognized standards for quality management systems. Learn More About The United States Coast Guard Yard HERE!! We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon. We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1
When I was a boy in the village, something about chickens fascinated me. Whenever I caught one, I held it down for a few moments and then gently released it. Thinking I was still holding it, the chicken remained down; even though it was free to dash away, it felt trapped.
When we put our faith in Jesus, He graciously delivers us from sin and the hold that Satan had on us. However, because it may take time to change our sinful habits and behavior, Satan can make us feel trapped. But Gods Spirit has set us free; He doesnt enslave us. Paul told the Romans, Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:12).
Through our Bible reading, prayer, and the power of the Holy Spirit, God works in us to cleanse us and to help us live for Him. The Bible encourages us to be confident in our walk with Jesus without feeling as if we are not set free.
Jesus said, If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36). May the freedom we have in Christ spur us on to love Him and serve Him.
Lord, forgive me for sometimes revisiting my past and forgetting that You have washed away my sins. Thank You for taking my burden and setting me free to enjoy living for You.
My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. Charles Wesley
Romans 8 is one of the theological highpoints of the Bible, specifically as it relates to the Holy Spirit. Of the many references to the Holy Spirit in the book of Romans, over half are found in Romans 8! The life-giving Spirit liberates from sin and death and empowers believers to live in ways that honor God, which includes the reorientation of our thinking (vv. 28). Gods Spirit is the seal of Gods ownership and those so sealed are destined for future resurrection (vv. 911). Gods children are not under obligation to slavish, sinful desires (vv. 1213); rather, like Jesus, they are led by the Spirit of God (v. 14). As those in Gods family, believers in Jesus have the Spirit as their internal witness of their privileged status (vv. 1516). Painful circumstances that make us groan and pray are our lot in this fallen world (vv. 1825). Though sometimes our prayers are weak, we are not helpless. The Spirit of God is our prayer-helper whose intercession targets the will of God (vv. 2627).
How have you seen the Holy Spirit working in your life?

My first Cutter was the CGC Cherokee (WMEC-165). An ex-Navy 205’ ocean going tug the Coast Guard painted white and cruised from Nova Scotia to the Yucatan Straights. She was setting on blocks, high and dry, in dry-dock at the Baltimore yards. 1988. Couldnt get out of there fast enough and back to home port in VA-Beach!

The wife and I will be launching our boat from “The Grove” tomorrow, as Mother Nature has finally decided it’s Summer time here in Baltimore.
We love putting in at the Coast Guard base and puttering around Curtis Bay while sipping a cold beverage or two.
If you’re local, come meet us at the sand bar.
