The Department of Justice reneged on a commitment to provide access to documents they promised to congressional lawmakers by Thursday morning. Instead, DOJ issued a press release after midnight suggesting they will only meet with a group of select lawmakers to discuss the matter on the same day the North Korea summit opens in Singapore, according to numerous sources and a DOJ statement.
Moreover, the Justice Department also issued new stipulations for briefing congressional members and limited the meeting with only the Gang of Eight, which is comprised of eight leaders within Congress who are briefed on classified intelligence matters.

Congress has an oversight role. Congress has a right to see those documents. DOJ is obstructing Congress’s ability to over see what DOJ is doing. Session is either a coward or a traitor and Rosenstein is a rat.
I didn't think so.
It's startling to see how quickly many Freepers have forgotten that Congress is the heart of the D.C. Swamp.
If he has a constitutional right to see the documents than yes I would. Congress has oversight authority over DOJ and DOJ is obstructing Congress. It is as simple as that.
DOJ does not have the right to prevent Congress from over seeing what DOJ is doing.
President Trump has said that if DOJ continues to obstruct Congress he might have to get involved. So clearly Trump understands he has a rouge DOJ on his hands.
Congress can shut down Mueller’s investigation tomorrow. The fact that they haven’t even raised that possibility tells me this is all just political posturing.
P.S. — Look at this in the context of yesterday’s news about the indictment of a Senate staffer for leaking confidential DOJ information to the media. I don’t trust Congress any more than I trust the DOJ.

If Congress *had* over-sight, least alone doing that part of its job, we wouldn’t be discussing this, the Deep State, etc. (Hell, I’m still try to noodle how Meuller\gang still has a law license after his prior rail-roading).
As these, and numerous other ‘rogue’ agencies have done what all govt does over time (grow w/o restraint in power and scope), they should be zero’d out and folded into Constitutional dept/agencies; those ‘committees’ abolished and the members thereof seriously sanctioned.
HOPEFULLY, the People will do the correct thing, next available opportunity.
Rod Rosenstein was appointed to the Deputy U.S. Attorney General post in early February 2017. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate almost three months later.
And yet Congress never passed a law requiring Senate confirmation for the Deputy AG. For that matter, Congress never established the Deputy AG post in the first place. The position was established internally in the DOJ back in the 1950s.
Doesn’t matter. The FBI has zero right to refuse to give any information to Congress. Period.
Giving it to Congress has to be less risky than leaving it only with the FBI who in fact is the actual criminal in this situation
The conspirators knew who was leaking. The same doj conspirators had him arrested. And now we find out the doj doesn’t want to release documents, and this is one of their justifications. Very convenient.
Doesn’t matter. The minute you assert doj and FBI have the right to flip the finger to Congress you have turned the constitution on its head and made us into a police state.
Besides who cares if Adam Schiff sees it, all he can do is exposed documents that prove the criminal conspiracy.
I don't want any of this turned over to Congress. I want it posted on the DOJ website for public viewing.
DOJ knew who the Senate staffer was, he’s one of their boys. His arrest is nothing more than their playing a pawn to justify not cooperating with Congress. Wake up. Its a farce.
Ultimately you’re correct, but doj cannot be trusted to do that, that’s why it has to go to Congress. But Trump needs to declassify everything and have it posted. I cannot think of a legitimate reason. They would not give it to Congress, but several illegitimate oned
The case on the leaker is 3 years old got that 3 years old go read it they got his emails and calls 3 long very long years ago and you can bet Obama and his happy henchmen sat on it. Its time to clean out the DOJ. Mr Trump when you get back from Singapore march Sen Grassi straight into Rosensteins office with the DOJ IG and demand a copy of the document that authorizes the witch hunt then wait 60 days and fire the entire 7th floor of the DOJ........including Rosenstein and Sessions and appoint Rudy G an tell him to lock up every 1 of Obamas hold overs...
The DOJ is operating as if Obama is still POTUS. With Rosenstein in charge, this should surprise no one.
If you think our harshly divided congress will impeach Sessions, I have a beautiful ocean front condo in Arizona at half price, just for you!
I think in practical terms, you are submerged in theoretical.
“Time to start impeaching or firing those causing these problems.”
Impeachment isn’t necessary. DOJ reports into the Executive branch. Trump has the power to force change if he wants to.
I believe the flaw in your logic is your assumption that Trump is afraid to fire anyone, let alone a supposedly insubordinate senior leader like an attorney general or deputy attorney general. There is just too much precedent to the contrary, including Trump's sacking of DAG Sally Yates for her refusal of the president's direct order. But it does not trouble me that others disagree, as time will tell what has really been going on for the past year.
What has fundamentally changed, in terms of DC power, since Yates was fired?
I am sick and tired of defending Jeff Sessions....
