Half of Americans in Gallup's 2018 Values and Beliefs poll say that being gay or lesbian is a trait from birth, easily eclipsing the 30% who believe it is a product of upbringing and environment. This is consistent with findings over the past few years. Another 10% say both explanations play a role, while 4% attribute being gay to something else and 6% are unsure.
When Gallup first asked this "nature vs. nurture" question in 1977, a majority of U.S. adults (56%) said being gay or lesbian was due to people's upbringing and environment, and only 13% saw it as a birth trait. Attitudes didn't shift markedly until after 1989. Between 1989 and Gallup's next update in 1996, the percentage believing sexual orientation is determined at birth jumped from 19% to 31%, and reached 40% by 2001. Opinion remained steady for the next 12 years, as Americans were roughly split between the two positions. Since 2012, the percentage assigning sexual orientation to nature rather than nurture has inched up another 10 percentage points.
This year's Values and Beliefs poll, conducted May 1-10, also shows 67% of Americans in favor of same-sex marriages being legal -- a new high for that viewpoint. Separately, Gallup recently reported that the percentage of Americans identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender has increased a full point since 2012 and is now 4.5%.
The perception that a person is born gay rather than it being the result of upbringing or other factors has increased among all demographic and political groups. But, according to a comparison of aggregated data from 2001 to 2003 vs. 2015 to 2018, the change in beliefs has been most pronounced among politically left-leaning groups, including young adults (aged 18 to 34), college graduates, Democrats, liberals and those who seldom or never

1/3 of voters do not think for themselves.
It wasn’t that long ago when the vast majority did not favor SSM.
I disagree with you. While all sex behavior has to be learned, more or less, though two people on a desert island have a good chance of figuring out some basics, lol, sexual orientation comes from inside the brain. It is not a choice.
Can someone make a choice? Yes. Can a straight person decide to have sex with someone of their gender? Yes. Can a gay person decide to have sex with someone of the opposite gender? Yes (for many years gay people lives as straights). Is that their orientation? No. Their sexual fantasies give them away.
Maybe more than half of all people in relationships want sex less Than their partners. Its not a gay thing.
Nature. It was almost instinct that you wanted to sit in the dark holding Iriss hand. You may have loved to play ball and hang with Joe in 5th grade but you didnt want to hold his hand or kiss him at the movies.
If gays were genetic the percentage would be constant. Encourage it and you get more.
Joe wasn’t that cute and he didn’t have curly blonde hair. LOL.
If sexuality is nature, is homosexuality nature and if so isn’t that God’s creation?
If sexuality is nature, is homosexuality nature and if so isnt that Gods creation?
And Gd has told us to love them all.
What about his Tranny-Nanny who “nurtured” him in early childhood???? And the Imans in Indonesia who tend to like the little boys the best, like the little dancing boys in Afghanistan?
There is no such thing as a “gay” gene-—that was proven a decade ago, at least. All behaviors are learned. You aren’t born desiring anal cavities or goats or dogs. It is ALL learned and habituated—as ALL unnatural, warped behaviors. Like Spartans all were raping the little boys, but then it was “love” and not considered rape to partner with the little 7 year old boys. By age 18 the young men were supposed to quit the homosexuality to mate and produce sons (hopefully)-—they weren’t like the sodomites today who “think” two males can multiply. After fathering children, they were again given boys to sodomize (adult males would kill other males who would attempt to sodomize them, since it was very emasculating for the Spartans to be treated as “women” so it was always Man/Boy “partnership”.
Moberly’s book on Psychogenesis explains that it is always abuse and neglect which warps children, and can happen as early as 9 months old when babies are embedding and understanding relationships/bonding with mother and father. Without proper secure bonding, they become intrinsically disordered-—have perverted desires since their natural need for love and nurturing was denied. That neglect will warp their desires.
If they have a father who is abusing them—being mean or distant and ignoring them-—or a mother who does the same or worse—that child will be warped for life, and seek relationships which are destructive, evil and meaningless (as was learned and embedded into his subconscious), He will be nihilistic and warped for life if he doesn’t have a “Jesus/God” moment—awakening where he learns to love himself (and God’s Design).
All human beings need to be connected to others and it always starts with the Natural Family, a loving father and mother-—and without that, they can not be “normal” or understand “Natural laws” (common sense, etc.).
Encourage it and you get more.
Indeed. Encourage it, lie about the health hazards, misrepresent studies, attack those who have left the life, etc. All of this to hide the facts.
Even scientists who are gay have admitted the same. But some here will do all they can to ignore the facts.
The cause of a cleft palate isn't certain, but women who smoke, take certain medications, are diabetic and more are more likely to have a baby with a cleft palate.
Reporters have misrepresented studies by stating homosexuals are more likely to be left handed, have longer fingers, a different size hypothalamus and more, all of which were debunked years ago. Now some scientists who are gay are stating there's nothing in genetics to support the born that way theory.
We also have ex-gays, some of whom ran gay magazines (Charlene Cothran ran Venus Magazine for lesbians, Michale Glatz co-founded Young Gay America.) Dennis Jernigan is now a Christian songwriter and many, many more.
There are LUGs (Lesbian Until Graduation).
There are those who choose the life (http://queerbychoice.com) and if you read some of my links above you'll find more who admitted to choosing the life.
We don't do ourselves any favors by ignoring all the evidence.

Your comment borders on total insanity.
Think it over a bit more.
Our creator differs with you completely, and I can find no weakness in his treatise on life.

Oh yeah....forgot about that one for a sec.
Probably FMD THEN the tranny-nanny....
Are you saying Down Syndrome is meant to be, by Gd? Maybe it is. I cant begin to understand. I know from caring with people with special needs that they are perfect just the way they are. I think Gd sets up the world and things just combine in weird ways, obstacles happen, and we must get through them, get past them, and love each other.
There is a very short window of time toward the later part of the first trimester, in which the brain / sex organ / gender / decisions are made. Clearly something environmental affects some of those determinants. There are more gender dysphoria, more homosexuality, more hypospadias, more ovarian problems, than generations before.
Not everyone gay chooses to be gay. Most do not.

Cool, you know everything about our Creator. Well, I dont. But Im not insane. I simply do my best to understand and synthesize info. From everywhere.
The Bible doesnt want us to live a gay lifestyle. Clearly. But it really, really doesnt want us to gossip. That is a far worse sin according to the BIble, than lying with another man. But typical religious people think yuckier sins are worse to Him. Apparently not.
I know a few who were horribly abused as children - I wonder if they take that into consideration...
Didn’t I say it was MY observation based only on MY experience?
I also did not mention anything about those who CHOOSE that lifestyle.
Thanks for repeating and misunderstanding.
Yes, you choose who you have sex with, but for most people sex is only thought about if it’s preceded by that little nudge called desire. If you are a female and do not have the physical attraction toward other females you will not want to have sex with them. But you will find yourself thinking Johnny is cute and when he makes a move you get the butterflies around him so you give in to the desire. Opposite for gays and lesbian. If at some coming of age point you don’t have the natural lusty feelings for the opposite sex, rather your same sex, that tells me it’s nature and I believe crossed wires formed during development, so to speak. It is what it is, nobody can force it just like nobody can force me to like the taste of beer or for you to love whatever it is you have never liked.
There is no “gay” gene.
Hollywood/media propaganda is very effective, obviously.
Yes, they need to explain to me how a genetic trait can get more common even though it causes procreation to cease. I guess I’m not smart enough to figure that one out. If it were nature, there would be no queers in 50 years.
I think it's best to say most do not choose their same-sex attraction, but neither are they born with their same-sex attraction. That's what science and all the data supports. When we ignore all the data, we become similar to mushrooms: in the dark, surviving off manure and spouting the same.
Don't be like a mushroom.
