Leakers to the New York Times confirmed in a story published on Wednesday that the FBI had run a spy operation on the Trump campaign that involved government informants, secret subpoenas, and possible wiretaps.
The story comes ahead of the release of the pending Department of Justice inspector general report on the FBI’s actions during the 2016 election, and likely is an attempt by the leakers to paint the FBI’s efforts in the most flattering light possible.
But the story revealed that the FBI – which is supposed to be an apolitical agency – was spying on the Trump campaign through phone records and with “at least one” human asset.
“The F.B.I. obtained phone records and other documents using national security letters — a secret type of subpoena — officials said. And at least one government informant met several times with Mr. Page and Mr. Papadopoulos,” the Times reported, citing “current and former officials.”
The revelation of “at least one government informant” appears to confirm a Washington Post story last week in which leakers revealed that the FBI had a “top secret intelligence source” — a U.S. citizen who likely lived overseas — who had spied on members of the Trump campaign for the FBI.
The Post‘s report came out as House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) was fighting the Justice Department for access to information on the source.
According to the Wall Street Journal‘s Kimberley Strassel, the source meant “the FBI secretly had a person on the payroll who used his or her non-FBI credentials to interact in some capacity with the Trump campaign.”
“This would amount to spying, and it is hugely disconcerting,” she wrote in a piece last Thursday.

Yep, and that’s why we need to scream that the treasonous parties pay with minimum of prison.
What I find interesting is that they apparently did not go after any of the other Republican candidates. They knew that they could not control President Trump. They were scared to death that he would win and expose them. That is exactly what is happening.
In a sane world, this is damning. How could this abuse of power be viewed in any way that is flattering?

and not a damned thing will ever happen to a one of them. if a republican had pulled this, there would be special prosecutors, grand jury indictments and trials at federal court level with a Marxists judge in charge to get the guilty convictions.

If this had been about protecting American elections, the FBI would have warned the Trump campaign of potential “Russian interference”. They chose not to warn Team Trump.
They didn’t want to protect America; they wanted an excuse - a backup plan.
This was about a Deep State coup against the lawfully elected President of the United States in the “unlikely” event that the unthinkable happened and their chosen insiders lost.

Not surprising to those of us who have been following this scandal closely for over two years.

He has had a criminal prosecutor (Huber) assigned since last year, apparently August or earlier.
He has been very quiet about it, despite all the taunting and insults he received. Very professional.
Things have ripened, and the election is nearing, so the time to go public is nearing. Part of that will likely be the filing of criminal charges, and another part could be closing down the special counsel.
The IG Report was formally entered final review yesterday. This means publication around Memorial Day, and public Congressional testimony days later - likely starting a Summer of Congressional media theater, like the Watergate Hearings.
It also means that Principals (AG, DAG, FBI Director and Deputy), as well as those still employed, with adverse findings (Strzok, maybe Rosenstein) will have a few days to read and contest facts. So leaks are no doubt underway, and the Dems are scrambling to craft their talking points, and get ahead of the story.
That is what this NY Times piece is - their first line of defense against the damning truth that is about to come out.
Trump was so guilty that Obama had to spy on him. They’ll make a movie about how brave Obama/Comey/Brennan/Clapper were to go to this length to protect us from Trump.
