A pair of U.S. Air Force stealth fighter jets intercepted two Russian nuclear-capable bombers Friday morning off the coast of Alaska, a spokesman for NORAD (North American Aeorospace Defense Command) told Fox News.
The approach by the two Tupolev Tu-95 Russian "Bear" aircraft marked the first time in just over a year that Russian bombers had flown that close to U.S. territory.
The Russian bombers came within 55 miles of Alaska's west coast, north of the Aleutian Islands, but remained in international airspace, the spokesman, Canadian Army Maj. Andrew Hennessy said.

Yeah well they would have entered the great beyond had they gone much further.
They don’t drink water, they drink vodka. Did you ever hear about the plot to fluoridate water?. No doubt the international Russian conspiracy.
Our purity of essence is threatened.........
Would this also include WADS?
Them Rooskies, y'know... :)
Keep them coming, the weather around the coast of Alaska can make planes disappear without a trace.
Im glad the Russians do this, its good practice for our defense systems.
Too bad Obama is not President now. He would have told them to ‘knock it off.” That would have scared them a lot.
55 miles....gimme a break...
F-22s?
Alaska Ping!
We need to start doing the exact same thing they do to us.....buzz them
Maybe we can send up a few jets to escort Hillary’s plane away from our shores when she tries to come back to the US.
Hope springs eternal.
“Im glad the Russians do this, its good practice for our defense systems.”
I think this is more like Kabuki theater than a test of our defenses. I think a future attack will covertly focus on non-war related systems designed to collapse our economy. Sabotage and electronic attacks that can be carried out anonymously from third world countries, like spreading computer viruses and collapsing the electrical grid. As more and more things get wired into the internet we are developing new vulnerabilities. Cars that are internet connected will also be a target. We’ll know we are under attack when little in our daily lives works, from the car to the phone to the computer. Bombers are so yesterday. (No, I am not advocating getting rid of bombers. Just saying these incursions are political posturing.)
Putin and the rest of the slime need to remember Bozo is gone
I sense all the hostile noise about Russia now is really over matters like Syria and Iran.
It looks like some adults had a face to face meeting in Moscow the other day, Mr. Netanyahu of Israel and Mr. Putin.
President Donald J. Trump has met Mr. Putin and talked on the phone with him.
I think talking is a better way than all this belligerence.
Good point. Just like the main purpose of the the strategic bomber in WWII was not to destroy the military directly. It was to destroy the infrastructures and industry that supported it.
