No ammonia but I have used Tricalm, calamine and neosporin. LOL! I’m layered up and still itch. Maybe I’ll take some benadryl, but not quite yet, or it’ll be a really early night for me.
Hubby used to get all the skeeter bites, but not since he was diagnosed diabetic. Evidentally he’s not sweet any more...or is too sweet. Whatever. :)
I don’t blame you for being upset, but knowing how much you enjoy digging through those huge totes, I hope they get in touch with you!
I found out how well ammonia works by accident. Hubby’s mom had bought a bunch of these little tubes of stuff that I can’t remember the name of now. They were filled with liquid. I got bitten and decided to try it and it did the trick.
I noticed it smelled like ammonia and read the ingredients. That’s all it was! And it cost a lot more for one of those little tubes than buying a bottle of ammonia. So now we just keep ammonia on hand and that’s what we use.
I stopped getting bitten when I stopped eating meat. Years later I read about a study that said vegetarians don’t get bitten much because our body odor doesn’t have a meat smell so mosquitos aren’t attracted. I eat fish but I reckon that’s not enough to whet the little buggers’ appetites.
Your hubby’s body odor changed when diabetes reared its ugly head and now they aren’t interested. A little something good with the bad.
I got all the way downstairs and had to go back up...I forgot to mail my edits home. By the time I got back down and out the door to my car, it had started to rain...and it still is. We really need it for dust control, but sometimes it is coming sideways.
Sure hope you get some soon.
Yeah, he does like to hold that over my head when I’m whinng and complaining of itching so much. LOL!
I think I’ll have hubby buy me a bottle of ammonia. The sudsy kind or another kind? Not sure I could give up meat though. We don’t eat as much as we used to, but it’s still in the diet. Mainly chicken and hubby gives me one of his 1/2 slices of bacon when he makes his breakfast.
The fact that he keeps barrels of rain water...very OLD rain water now....is a breeding ground for the little devils. Even though he puts stuff in it to kill the larva. I’d better tell him it’s time to re-treat it.
That’s awesome news about the rain! Just enjoy it especially now that you’re safely home. Open a window so you can smell it. It’s heavenly!
I just grab a bottle of ammonia. I don’t pay attention to whether it’s sudsy or not. I put some in a small pump bottle and apply it with that.
I’m not a strict vegetarian. I still eat animal products - eggs, cheese, milk, and such - but it must not be enough to make me smell good to mosquitos. LOL! I don’t miss meat, I reckon because there are soybean “meats” that I like. But no tofu for me! That stuff is nasty!
Yep, it does sound like re-treating those rain barrels is in order. That’s probably where your skeeters came from.
I need to remember to ask him to get it next time he’s at the grocery store. Maybe tomorrow. I have to get new tires and an oil change so we’ll be out and about. I let him do the shopping because I simply hate doing it. LOL!
Tofu isn’t food at all. It really is nasty! blech!
I got 8 out of 11 correct.
Howdy, EGC! (((hugs)))
Thanks for taking the quiz! You did way better than I did! Hope you and Bo had a nice day on your afternoon jaunt!
Write it on the shopping list so he doesn’t forget to grab a bottle.
Whew, there’s no way I’d let Hubby do the shopping. He’d come home with everything BUT what was on the list. LOL! I won’t even let him go with me because we end up with three times as much stuff. Learned that lesson LOOOOONG ago.
I don’t know how people eat tofu. ergh! There’s nothing you can do to it to make it taste decent.
FINALLY know what the hoo-hoo bird is after years of hearing them in the forests overseas. One landed in the eagle nest tree in Latvia this morning and a chatter commented on it. It’s a forest pigeon.
How cool that you know what the hoo-hoo bird is. Just from your description, it reminded me of some of the doves we have around here. Did the eagle eat it? LOL!
Hubby does buy too much, and I fuss about it, but I just don’t want to have to do it myself. Especially since I don’t cook either. :) I’m lazy. But he likes doing it and I got burned out on it years ago when I worked full time. So.....
Guess I’d better go. I probably have Peaches tonight, which means I’ll wake up a lot during the rest of the night. Sweet boy wants ALL my attention. :) See ya tomorrow night! Oh, ahd......
We did. Although there were quite a few people out there. Weather was nice yesterday. We’ll see how today goes.
It’s driven me nuts wondering what the heck that bird was. Like you, I figured it had to be some sort of dove or pigeon. It sounds similar to a mourning dove but it’s louder.
No, the eagle didn’t eat it. LOL! It barely reacted to its presence.
Can’t say grocery shopping is one of my favorite chores but I’d much rather do it than let Hubby do it. I knock it out pretty quickly. What he does do, and the ol’ back appreciates it greatly, is help me lug the stuff in and put it away.
Oh boy, lucky you. You have Peaches tonight. He must know the weather’s going to take a turn. Hope he behaves himself for a change and lets you sleep.
Fell right into it tonight. LOL
Nice weather is a two-edged sword. It’s wonderful to get out in ...... but everyone else thinks so too. LOL
I hope rain doesn’t keep you and Bo from getting out today.
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning
Thank you, Luvy, for preparing the Canteen
for today's activities.
Here's my B
I actually got 8 out of 11.
Wasn't sure about the "detective" shows like Barnaby Jones
and chose wrong.
Good morning Canteeners. How is everyone?
We're getting some rain in my area.
We are starting to get more
spring-like temps...finally!
Got a sunny, warm weekend coming up.
Can you say GRILLIN?
No grandma duty today,
so I got to sleep in until hubby left for work at 5.
Funny how when I decided to retire
I really thought I could sleep past 0600.
Anyhoo, I get a break until the week of May 7th.
I love my grandkids,
but I am wiped out after a week and half of early morning rising
and running roads; don't feel as if I get my own stuff done.
The Canteen is
Come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

Hi Beachy!
I didn’t do very well on the “B” test.
In fact, I was a little flat.
You got 7 out of 11!
We were going to grade you a B+, considering the theme of the quiz and all. But you deserve an A!
