"Israel has still not learned the lessons from the Holocaust. Had it taken the meaning to heart, it would stop the ongoing atrocities in Syria."
We've been inundated with such messages every since the Syrian bloodbath commenced in 2011. While these vacuous statements are heard constantly, they reach a fever constantly pitch when Yom Hashoah season rolls around.
According to this view, Israel is betraying its Jewish heritage by letting Assad butcher his people unopposed.
I've always hated hearing people say this because it's the worst kind of virtue signaling. Imagine you were handed the keys: What would you do?
Would you invade Syria and fight Bashar Assad alongside ISIS? Would you fight ISIS side by side with Hezbollah? What happens when Putin gets mad that Israel rushed hell-bent into his sphere of influence?
Should Israel call up 40,000 reservists and start an all-out war between Israel, Syria, Iran, Hezbollah and Russia? What will you tell a mother whose son in the IDF was killed fighting to save Syrian civilians in Douma? What will you say when Assad flattens Tel Aviv with missiles?
And if you were prepared to pay such a price, how would it work tactically? Should the IDF capture all of Syria? Should Nahal and Kfir Brigade soldiers patrol Homs as a kind of peacekeeping force?
In addition, the entire paradigm that Israel needs to become the world's social worker because of what Hitler did to us is fundamentally wrong. If suffering genocide gives you a special moral task then why don't the Armenians have this responsibility? After all, almost 3 million of them were killed by Turkey in the early 20th century.
What about the American Indians? They also suffered a bloodbath. Why do they get off scot free? Stalin systematically starved 3.5 million...

No. Lev is an Israeli leftist who has no idea what the real world is like so he draws up his own world, talks about moving or not moving pieces around in it, and then condemns something that is not happening.
He’s a typical leftist schmuck and no even a smart one. Plus his “historical facts” are wrong about Armenia, Stalin, etc..
It’s not sane to bomb Assad to help ISIS.
Did you even read the editorial? He is opposed to intervening in Syria.
The civil war in Syria is a Mozlem on Mozlem war. Evil fighing evil for its version of evil . Christian’s get minor protection under the Assad side but other than that no reason to pick sides or intervene. ( Drawing a red line against chemical weapons is a seperate issue)
I’m not so sure.. years ago, I remember reading about the Syrian gas pipeline for Europe. If anyone wants to destabilize Syria, it’s the European country or countries who got the bad end of that deal.
Look how successful one man, soros is, in destabilizing our country as he has honed his skills.
Hamas doesn’t accept payment in peanuts. And the leadership doesn’t work for free.
We are in a serious proxy war with Russia and Iran.. still, decades later. We need to mind our own business. Why spend more taxpayer money and endanger American lives in yet another Mideast country?
I usually don’t go by twitter reports, but this one was so interesting, there may have been Russians at this “Al Dumayr” base bombed OR attempted to be bombed. At first, I didn’t think their defense systems were strong enough to intercept but now, there are too many reports of this, some by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, who are not Syrian state media.
If Iran obtaining a real nuclear bomb is indeed a threat, I’m not judging for myself, perhaps Israel is trying to speed the clock up while they still have weapons superiority.
bttt and I don’t think what the President did will get us embroiled in Syria. Syria just lost some of the gifts Saddam Hussein gave them before Bush (43) invaded Iraq>
Iran constantly says death to America all of the time. Iran also invaded U.S. territory and held our diplomats hostage in violation of all international and decent law. Who are Iran's nuclear weapons really for?
And shipping Iranian missiles thru Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanan is a separate issue...And watching Iran build military bases with missiles in Syria pointed toward Israel is a separate issue...
Damn straight. Never step between two combatants in a barroom brawl, especially not when they both have shivs out.
Right now the best option for Israel is for Assad to win, but keep fighting thejihadis he will face in the north. This will keep his attention to the north. To the West he's given up territory to Kurdistan - and they are Israeli allies
in fact Israel could use Assad - he is beholden to the Iranis and Russians, a bit too much. If Israel can give him a (covert) separate lifeline, he will be happy
The USA already helped the jihadis in 2011-2016 and would have handed the Christians to the grave if not for Russia in 2015 (thank you Obama and McCain).
obambi really screwed up this country

Part of any leader’s statement to either save their nation, or to say a baby, is why old men exhort the young to fight their causes.
To be fair, Jews in America did exactly that - they were at the forefront of the civil rights movement
Iran invaded the embassy in Tehran in 1979, yet Saudi trained terrorists killed 3000 Americans on American soil and inspired many more attacks onAmerica
Israel and the USA would be better off staying out of that fight, helping the re-build, and attacking Syria only if Syria attacks them. Israel is no more prepared than the US to station an occupation force there and be responsible for whatever goes wrong.
