WASHINGTON Firearm bump stocks would have to be surrendered, destroyed or made inoperable under a ban proposed Friday by the Justice Department.
The devices, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire as fast as a machine gun, became the focus of concern following the discovery that Stephen Paddock attached them to 14 of the 22 rifles he used in the October 2017 shooting rampage in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and injuring more than 700.
"After the senseless shooting in Las Vegas, this proposed rule is a critical step in our effort to reduce the threat of gun violence that is in keeping with the Constitution and the laws passed by Congress," said Attorney General Jeff Sessions in announcing the proposed rule.
President Donald Trump listed the bump stock ban as one of the measures he would support after February's school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
When attached to a rifle, a bump stock allows recoil action to move the weapon back and forth against the trigger finger. After the first pull, the finger remains stationary and the weapon repeatedly bumps against it: in essence, the rifle then fires itself.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms determined earlier that bump stocks should not be classified as machine guns, because the weapons they were attached to still required a separate trigger pull for each round fired.
But in proposing the new rule Friday, the Justice Department said the earlier ruling "does not reflect the best interpretation of the term 'machine gun.'"
Weapons classified as machine guns are grandfathered and may be kept if they were legally possessed before the Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed. But because no bump stocks existed before the law was passed, the proposed rule said, gun owners who have the devices now "would be required to surrender them, destroy them, or otherwise render them permanently inoperable."
The proposed rule will be published in the Federal Register next week, providing for 90 days of public comment. The government can then make the rule final.
Oh sure that he jumps on. Do nothing Mr. Magoo.
If you want someone to go to prison for a piece of plastic or a lid of pot, Sleepy is your man.
Are rubber bands and belt loops next? If they can do this, then they can define away the 2A.
Anything to defer draining the swamp and prosecuting Clinton, holder, lynch, et al......
I don’t care about all these so-called “rights.” Having lived all over the world and seen how Police and Government agencies in places like Mexico, Russia, and China struggle to help the common man, I look forward to the day when only the most powerful people - for instance, the TSA in our country, or the IRS - anyone with a badge, really - are allowed by our proud, free citizenry to use dangerous weapons to protect us. Thank God for our heroes!
Bless his heart.
Occasionally he does do what his boss, Trump, asks him to do.
OCCASIONALLY.
Great. Sessions is breathing again.
They are piling on. For God’s sake folks. Quit giving them what they want unless you want another Hillary in charge.
Oh sure that he jumps on....

Of course, In-Box Sessions jumps on anything his DOJ Deep State staff puppet masters put in his in-box with their specific directions on what to do and say.
This is the turning point. Nice to know you Don and Jeff, it’s been a slice,
Sleepy has another name Dopey .
Sessions is a dope
Great. Sessions is breathing again.
Other wise he considers the president's commands as "suggestions".
Actually you only need your finger and shoulder to give you an Auto-like weapon. So this pretty much bans semi-automatic rifles.
March 23, 2018 - The Day The Trump Administration said to its base:
You're Fired!!
What a dim bulb. Sessions is a joke.
Sessions played us all.
Sessions acted out a part as a conservative Senator from Alabama
Now we see he is a just a corrupt dwarf stooge named dopey
Shakespeare was right “All the world’s a stage and we are all just actors in it”
If the Deep State would send guns to Mexican Cartels to increase violence in Mexico to reduce support for the 2A here, why wouldn’t they stage the Vegas shooting to ban bump stocks and start the push against semi-autos?
