TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) UPDATE (6:15 p.m.):
The National Rifle Association has filed a federal lawsuit over gun control legislation Florida Gov. Rick Scott has signed, saying it violates the Second Amendment by raising the age to buy guns from 18 to 21.
The lawsuit came just hours after Gov. Scott, a Republican, signed the compromise bill Friday afternoon.
Lawyers for the NRA want a federal judge to block the new age restriction from taking effect.
The new legislation raises the minimum age to buy rifles from 18 to 21, extends a three-day waiting period for handgun purchases to include long guns and bans bump stocks that allow guns to mimic fully automatic fire. It also creates a so-called "guardian" program that enables teachers and other school employees to carry handguns.
The new measures come in the wake of the Feb. 14 shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 people.

Besides examining the conduct and arrangements of the Broward county sheriff’s dept performance failures. A dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents at Parkside were reported after the selection of Obamas Chicago friend as school superintendent occurred which was publicly acclaimed.And that school district was receiving large grant money from Obamas Attorney General because of those results. That many critics claimed encouraged criminal activity. Which should require Trump Administration US Attorney General beside find out why when the FBI knew that Cruz should not be able to purchase weapons did. And review these grant programs instituted by the previous Obama administration.

However, you are required to serve in the military at age 18 years. Then raise the age to serve to 21 years, too.
Seems unfair — demand that a young man serve in the military, yet he is not trustworthy enough to own a weapon.
Also purchasing alcohol is not a right as spelled out in the Bill of Rights.
...The maturity level of people that are in their 20's today would be comparable to the maturity level of people in their early to late teens decades ago.

I’d ask the promoters of the legislation if, after this law is passed, they are promising that a situation like happened in Florida will never happen again?
And then take names and promise that blame will directed at them if/when it happens again. The will own it. After all, they promised by passing the law.

Agreed. This suit is dead on arrival in the courts. Heller specifically stated that some regulation was permissible.
They should sue of age of any gun sale, also the 3-day waiting period, etc.

The GUN CONTROL ACT OF 1968 (federal law) set the ages of 21 for handguns and 18 for rifles and shotguns.

I hate the way the 2nd is constantly whittled away but I dont want this SC to get another challenge we barely won the last one 5-4 and Kennedy was very wobbly.
I’m not a lawyer, but this effectively means 18-20 year olds cannot own any firearm until their 21st birthday, which I’m not sure is legal. Alcohol, tobacco and driving aren’t constitutional rights.
Explain why not then make it 35. After all, that’s the age the founding fathers penned when a man is almost assuredly of sound mind and judgement, enough to be eligible for the presidency. How about the age of those able-bodied in the unorganized militia, 17 to 64 as is current regulation?

The Const. doesn’t GRANT Rights, but merely reaffirms a FEW of import vs. govt. The Rights of the People are INFINITE; the power of govt are few and defined.

I am so sick of supposed “Conservatives” coming on here and saying, “I’ll vote for a Communist.” Yeah, you will know what you get with Bill Nelson. He’s a baby killing, gun grabbing, anti-Trump lunatic who will do everything in his power to march the country down the path toward Communism.
Do you want more strict Constructionist judges like Justice Gorsuch? Bill Nelson will block every one of them.
Do you want to advance the cause of life? Bill Nelson will push abortion on demand every chance he can get.
Do you want to protect the Second Amendment? Bill Nelson ran out to the media before the bodies were cold in Parkland, calling for an OUTRIGHT BAN, instant felon status on ALL Semi-autos.

If you are mad at Scott, fine! I’m with you. Vote against him the primary. If he wins the primary, vote for a Constitution party candidate or write in a name. But you don’t ever vote for a Communist “because you know what you will get.”
