Bump stock prices skyrocket after president proposes ban

Bump stock prices have spiked following President Trump's directive on Tuesday that the Justice Department draft regulations to ban the devices.

Bump stocks can be used to allow semi-automatic guns to fire at speeds similar to automatic guns.

After Trump’s proposed ban, bump stock prices quickly rose on the firearms auction website Gun Broker, Bloomberg reported.

Some bump stocks were being listed for anywhere from just above retail prices of less than $200 to as much as $1,000 with some listings having a tag that said "Get them while you can," according to Bloomberg.

Trump’s decision on bump stocks comes days after a school shooting in Florida left 17 dead and 14 others wounded. Public outcry has pressured lawmakers to take action to address gun violence.

The alleged shooter in Florida does not appear to have used a bump stock during his attack with an AR-15 rifle.

“We can do more to protect our children. We must do more to protect our children,” Trump said during the announcement of the DOJ directive at the White House.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders at a Tuesday press briefing said the president does not support the use of bump stocks and that further action will follow.

Bump stocks became a focus of the gun debate following an October mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival that left nearly 60 dead and 500 others injured. The shooter in Las Vegas allegedly used bump stocks during his attack.

Prices for the device also rose after the Las Vegas shooting as Congress mulled putting restrictions on them.

Well, there is an existing law against full auto weapons. The bump stock make a semiautomatic into an automatic fire weapon.

It can be argued that the bump stock is actually illegal under existing law.

Another bad move by Trump: things don’t look too good right now.

And to think that a little while ago we were speculating that we'd be getting Concealed Carry Reciprocity and NFA reform.

Today? Not so much....

I couldn’t afford the money they spend on ammo.

Heh. Yeah. I will hear a burst and say to my wife, “Well, there goes forty bucks.”

Incorrect. Full auto is legally defined as continuous fire while holding the trigger down. When using a bump stock, the trigger is pulled once for each shot.

It can be argued that the bump stock is actually illegal under existing law.

It's no more a machine gun under existing law than a Gatling Gun is.

I’m sure they could be a DIY. One could also modify most semi autos to full auto is they had the urge. As they say in Little Italy, sausage their own!

Best hunting rifle I ever owned was the Ruger Mini-14... was a BD gift from my pop at the age of 9yo.. He was a Vietnam vet... he told me he was one of the original SEALs before they had a name. He said there we 42 of them, and that Johnson(LBJ) had called them "Snake Eaters"..

He actually built my first gun himself.. a .22 lever action, which the firing pin didn't work, for some reason :/

The replacement gun was a bolt action .22 (single shot), that I hated :p ... but was sized for my body frame at about 7-8 years old.

More, or less, this is the range I had chronologically:

.22 (2yo)
.30 carbine (5yo)
.222 (5-7yo)
.243 (8yo)
.22-250 (8yo)
.223/5.56 (9yo)
20 gauge(12yo)
16 gauge (13yo)
12 gauge (13yo)
30-30 (14yo)

Except that the President did not even mention bump stocks in the clip that I saw on Foxnews. He said “all devises” that turn legal guns into machine guns. Well folks that encompasses a whole bunch of stuff much of which the good riddence crowd might just oppose. I think Americans need to get their hearing checked.

a burst

A burst? Try a couple hundred rounds in a day. They have to be reloaders but even at that it would add up.

Yeah, by burst, I just meant an emptying of a magazine.

Notice I didn’t say “clip”? I didn’t want to get the wrath of the grammar nazis. :-D

Bump stocks can be replaced by a thumb and a belt loop.

Hold muh beer. Watch this! Seriously? The lefties are looking for a "feel good" solution by banning "bump fire" stocks. Showing them that it is futile just reinforces their desire to come back after the AR-15 rifle as a target to ban.

Bump stocks are for those who lack the coordination to simply hold the weapon loosely enough, to let it "rattle" in the hands with each shot...

Oops, I've said too much.

I would argue that bump stocks are for those that don’t have good trigger press and reset habits...

I don’t want the gun to ‘rattle’. I want rounds on target.

a golf course is the waste of a perfectly good rifle range

I love that line. Might be a future tagline...

I know a few here have claimed to have ‘gotten pretty good at hitting something” with a bump stock attached, but I can’t see where anyone would miss them - pure ammo wasters with the probability of a lot of collateral damage ...

I believe he will broach that topic once this has cooled down a bit - the Left will do its best to keep the flames fanned but the proper time will come.

Not thrilled with banning the bump stocks but have no idea why a serious shooter would want one or why a "dabbler" would be safe with one - If my finger ain't fast enough for a situation then the situation is that I'm already a goner.

Banning Bumpstocks will do nothing to prevent school shootings. It is a meaningless gesture that at best will make some uninformed people feel better.

The real damage banning Bumpstocks is it distracts from taking action that will make schools safe. Arm select staff and harden access. Those are the common sense actions that work.

Have I missed out on a needed accessory?

I wonder why they have machine guns on tanks and airplanes as well as humvees. Ships have them, forts have them, prisons have them, who knew?

When you are attacked by an overwhelming force full auto starts to get more appealing.

As I understand it from what I have seen these bump fire stocks take a lot of effort to learn how to make it work and as anyone knows spray-and-pray is a terrible waste of ammo. It may be fun but it is very impractable. I will challenge anyone to put the most rounds in a 10” target at 25 yards in 10 seconds. The bump fire shooter may get the first one on target but that will probably be all. As far as the AR15 being such a terrible weapon I will take my Mossberg 930 SPX 12 ga semi-auto shotgun over it any day.

Your dad raised a fine boy, and one who has more knowledge about guns than I do. I do own numerous guns and have needed them during my lifetime to protect myself and others. I’ve tried a bump stock and my comment was related to my own experience. Spray and pray will never beat aim and squeeze.

well, there is an existing law against full auto weapons.

Full auto weapons are not illegal at least not the older ones. They were just taxed out of reach. You can own a Thompson if you can pass the background check and pay the tax. Machine Gun Kelly and Baby Face Nelson stirred up a hornets nest of opposition to Thompsons.

They aren't designed to put 10 rounds in a twenty inch target they are designed to but several bullets into twenty targets or more.
