Bump stock prices skyrocket after president proposes ban

Bump stock prices have spiked following President Trump's directive on Tuesday that the Justice Department draft regulations to ban the devices.

Bump stocks can be used to allow semi-automatic guns to fire at speeds similar to automatic guns.

After Trump’s proposed ban, bump stock prices quickly rose on the firearms auction website Gun Broker, Bloomberg reported.

Some bump stocks were being listed for anywhere from just above retail prices of less than $200 to as much as $1,000 with some listings having a tag that said "Get them while you can," according to Bloomberg.

Trump’s decision on bump stocks comes days after a school shooting in Florida left 17 dead and 14 others wounded. Public outcry has pressured lawmakers to take action to address gun violence.

The alleged shooter in Florida does not appear to have used a bump stock during his attack with an AR-15 rifle.

“We can do more to protect our children. We must do more to protect our children,” Trump said during the announcement of the DOJ directive at the White House.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders at a Tuesday press briefing said the president does not support the use of bump stocks and that further action will follow.

Bump stocks became a focus of the gun debate following an October mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival that left nearly 60 dead and 500 others injured. The shooter in Las Vegas allegedly used bump stocks during his attack.

Prices for the device also rose after the Las Vegas shooting as Congress mulled putting restrictions on them.

Dear president Trump,

If you want to do more to protect the children, do what celebrities, politicians, and banks do: allow ARMED security.

Or are we to assume that you also subscribe to:

Armed security for me and mine,
Gun-free zones for thee and thine.

Thanks and regards,
Westbrook

The government grabbers see the 150,000,000 gun owners in America as a giant unpredictable bump stock.

They’re a terrible waste of ammunition. Good riddance.

So you want anyone who wastes their ammunition in this manner to be a felon?

What business is it of yours?

Just my take. This is winning for the bump stock manufacturers.

And are they not really a DIY thing anyway?

I think a couple of my neighbors have bump stocks, based on the rate of fire I am hearing.

Why buy that crap?
File your fillings or use tape on the trigger guard, would do the same thing for next to free..

I Still prefer single shot (semi-auto) though.. you can hit a target with 1 shot, whereas auto throws you all over the place :p

A unilateral ban is not good politics. NEVER give up something for another thing. He should say that he is willing to sign a bump stock in exchange for National Reciprocity and the National Hearing Act passage, all rolled into one bill.

Waiting for state governments to file lawsuits to stop Trumps executive actions here as unlawful.

This is all art of the deal. Bump stocks won’t be banned. Not that it matters. I think they’re kind of stupid, but people should be allowed to own stupid stuff.

I think a golf course is the waste of a perfectly good rifle range, but I’m not in favor of banning the game.

Since the BATFE ruled bump stocks legal (under Obama!), they’re going to have a hard time reversing that ruling just because Trump asked them to.

Thing is, there’s just no objective way to describe such devices in a way that’s covered by existing law.
Either Trump will just let the issue evaporate (as these do, usually in days), or will toss it to Congress (since there is no current way to ban bump stocks under existing law) to legislate, where it then becomes another hot potato which the Left will claim they want yet won’t support when they get a “yes” - proving yet again that they aren’t interested in solving the problem, only in opposing anything which Trump does (no matter how much they claim to want).

Why on earth do you bother to post an article if you don’t want opinions?

So do you support making owners of bump stocks criminals? If not, why do you say "good riddance" in reaction to them potentially being made illegal?

the only problem is that it’ll just empower the libs to go further. Don’t give up a damn thing, repeal the stupid laws we have already.

I’m sure they could be a DIY. One could also modify most semi autos to full auto is they had the urge. As they say in Little Italy, sausage their own!

If you were a lib, and didn’t play golf, you’d want it banned. It’s the way they are about hunting, shooting, etc.

As a shooter that prides himself on accuracy....what is the attraction for these things?

Just gun range fun? Because they sure don’t seem very useful to me...

Have I missed out on a needed accessory?

They’re a terrible waste of ammunition.

I never used one, but I have to imagine they are virtually useless in getting follow-up shots on target.
