'Iran poised to replace ISIS across Middle East'
Arutz Sheva ^ | 19/2/18 | David Rosenberg

Posted on 02/19/2018 2:03:25 AM PST by Eleutheria5

ublic Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) warned that Iran is poised to supplant ISIS across Syria following the Islamic State’s military defeats over the past year, and urged the US to intervene to prevent Tehran from cementing its foothold in the war-torn state.

Speaking at the Conference of Presidents’ 42nd annual Leadership Mission to Israel in Jerusalem on Monday, Erdan warned that while ISIS had been weakened militarily, Iran is positioning itself to reap the benefits.

“Iran will replace ISIS,” said Erdan.

“There’s a need for greater American involvement in making sure that Iran does not turn Syria into a puppet state. Every day that Iran entrenches itself in Syria brings war closer.”

Without Western intervention, Erdan added, Syria would be dominated by Iran, leading to the establishment of a “Shia crescent” across the Middle East.

“There's no vacuum. If the US chooses not to be a major player in shaping the future of Syria, then others will - and trust me, it won't be the democratically - elected representatives of the Syrian people. The Islamic Republic [of Iran] will replace the Islamic State, and will try to set up a Syrian Hezbollah made up of Shia militias.”

“It's crucial that American policy-makers and opinion-leaders understand how explosive the situation really is. And that they understand that Iran and Hezbollah have hidden their missiles in the heart of Lebanese and Syrian villages, and have turned state infrastructure into a support system for their military machine.”

Should Iran continue to deepen its involvement in Syria, Erdan predicted, conflict between Israel and Tehran’s proxies will become inevitable.

“Israel has no desire for war...we will do what is necessary to protect our citizens and our borders. If we want to prevent such a conflict, then the time to act is now.”

...Iran will replace ISIS...

To hard to figure out who’s the worst. Kill them all. Better yet let them kill each other off.

He’s right. Iran has YUGE plans, so Netanyahu’s libtard enemies had better take note because our American President Trump very much likes Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu and would definitely want to partner with him against Iran.

Also, the bear is fond of Iran. We might have to settle for driving them out of Syria, which itself would be quite a feat.

Of course -- that's why IRAN cooked up ISIS in the first place. Thanks Eleutheria5.

We don't belong in Syria and Iraq, never did. If Russia and Iran bring stability to the region, that's fine. Time to drop the empire and save the nation.

How is it "conservative" to tell the rest of the world how to live? We helped remove ISIS, created by Obama's warmongering. Afghanistan had it's chance. We're still trying to win a nation by buying off it's corrupt leaders.

Stop listening to the Masters of War!!

Wrong “we”. My “we” is right next to Syria, and Iraq’s just past Jordan. We’d be happy to serve as proxy, holding both Russia and Iran in check for you Americans. That would actually be preferable to American military involvement, since you guys tend to get things bass ackwards a lot, and get all upset when the bodies pile up. But neither Iran or Russia are lightweights. If we’re going to restrain them from taking over our neighbors Jordan and Egypt by not getting killed, we could use some money and hardware, maybe an aircraft carrier and/or helicarrier to play with.

Please, don’t try to scare me with Russia taking over Egypt and Jordan. Remember a few years back when the US toppled the Egyptian gov with manipulated regime change? They were doing just fine until then. And Jordan? Their monarchy has proven to be very adept at survival. And Syria? They’ll be pretty involved undoing the mess we created. Assad never invited the US into his nation. If Russia can bring stability back to the region, and now it looks like ally with the Kurds to thwart Turkey, that’s to our benefit. We can worry about our borders at home and saving the US.

We’d be happy to serve as proxy, holding both Russia and Iran in check for you Americans.

It's doubtful whether Israel could handle either one of those countries in a war, much less both simultaneously...with Hezbollah and Syria added in as wild cards.

Be careful what you wish for Schlomo.

ISIS was only a proxy.
Apparently Iran and Turkey are getting strong enough to drop their “religion of Peace” masks.

——ISIS was only a proxy.-—

That is a correct statement.

But....

Iran has not had a religion of peace mask, merely several different political masks. The masks no longer hide reality

Turkey did not hide behind a religion of peace mask. In fact Turkey had no mask at at all. Turkey plainly and unequivocally makes it known they do not want the kurdish enemies to form a new state.

With the removal of ISIS, the battle is reduced to Syrian military deserters/separatists allied with Sunni Arabs and Kurds that have in fact formed a new nation east of the Euphrates River. With the Gulf Arabs and America in support that is pretty much a fact. The question is how far east does it go and how far south in Iraq.

Islam is not the religion of peace???
I’m aghast

Let me call “Bullshit”...

Bush said so on public TV

Then years later Obama is sending them cookies and ramadan cards.
Go figure.

You can call what ever you want but will still be wrong.

You jump to the general while ignoring the specific and thereby miss the entire point.

...”you guys tend to get things bass ackwards a lot, and get all upset when the bodies pile up.”

America has given you billions of dollars every year and lost thousands of lives to protect you. All we ever get in return is complaints that we are bad people who don’t give your people enough free stuff. Drop the arrogant attitude. Your country is not helpful to us at all. It’s purely a burden.

I’m sorry. But (1) you have not lost thousands of lives protecting little old us. You did lose a few hundred once ‘peacekeeping’ between us and the PLO. But I’d have druther that you didn’t. We were primed to rid the world of them once and for all. Instead, you had marines killed by a suicide bomber, doing nobody a bit of good.
(2) You have not given us any free stuff. Everything had a price tag, such as making peace with the aforementioned PLO, which doesn’t want peace. It’s OK. I respect and understand price tags. I am suspicious of free stuff, because there’s no such thing. Some price tags are too steep, simply because they’re based on a bass ackwards premise, such as peace with terrorist murderers at any cost. That’s a stupid price tag, far from free.
(3) I guess the nuclear reactor in Iraq and the same recently in Syria were OK. A few nuclear bombs never hurt anyone. Nope. No help at all. Boy, what a burden we’ve been, taking out nuclear reactors, Iranian operatives, sharing intelligence, etc.
(4) I was proposing, in response to a post from someone saying they didn’t want to get the US involved with chasing Iran out of Iraq and Syria, that we, living in the neighborhood, could act as the US proxy in that regard, but to do that we’ll need some hardware and some cash, especially carriers. Quid pro quo. Not free stuff at all, since it’ll be our soldiers holding the line and getting shot at, and Iran and Russia are no lightweights and won’t be dislodged any time soon, just held off.
(5) Yes, America is good people. Nicest people in the world. But that doesn’t mean you’re right-headed. You don’t understand this region, and you have a distorted view of it because of: a. Supreme delusions of longitude, and b. Fake news and mis-education. That’s why you get things bass ackwards. As for getting upset at casualties, the last engagement with Iraq is a case in point. Blood-letting comes with war. It’s synonimous. If you aren’t ready for it, don’t go to war.
(6) If you don’t understand the context of a remark, look back upsream on the thread until you do. Then respond. Otherwise, you’re just reacting, and getting everything bass ackwards.
