Fast-food delivery battles are heating up.
On Thursday, Yum Brands the parent company of KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut announced it had entered into a partnership with delivery company Grubhub. With the deal, KFC and Taco Bell will roll out delivery at thousands of locations across the US in 2018.
McDonald's made a major delivery push in 2017, going from a handful of locations testing delivery to roughly 5,000 locations delivering orders via UberEATS.
Here's how the two fast-food giants delivery strategies measure up.
McDonald's is modernizing and has a huge advantage on speed
McDonald's delivery drive is part of CEO Steve Easterbrook's' more general efforts to modernize the brand, with initiatives such as adding kiosks to stores and rolling out mobile orderings.
"People are so used to living their lives with one click of a button," Easterbrook told Business Insider on the topic of delivery in April 2017.
By partnering with UberEATS, McDonald's gained access to a sleek, super-modern delivery interface. According to the company, customers tend to spend more and shop at different times such as late at night than when they visit stores.
While originally there was skepticism over if customers would be willing to pay the delivery fee required by UberEATS, McDonald's say that it has been impressed by demand. In a call with investors in January, McDonald's said that delivery was the biggest contributor to comparable sale growth in several major markets in the fourth quarter.

McDonald's, KFC, and Taco Bell have gone to war in the $100 billion delivery market and there's a clear winner
None of that is food...
Pizza places have been doing it for years so the consumers will not have to be educated. The key is speed. There are few things worse then cold cheeseburgers and fries. If they can not keep the food hot, it will not work.
KFC wins by a beak.....They have a colonel leading them.......McDonald’s has a clown and Taco Belle ran for the border.................
Taco Bell can be OK. McD and KFC are inedible.
The "food" could sit there for 20 years and still look the same.
Taco Bell is inedible glop. McDonald’s mobile ordering is a mess. Never go to KFC.
I understand that Taco Bell winds up winning the Franchise Wars.
“There are few things worse then cold cheeseburgers and fries.”
Warm or not, fries have a very short lifespan. Even takehome is most often not good.
Yeah, why would I pay someone to have that junk delivered? I can prepare real food myself for a lot less money.
I hit 40 and then couldnt eat national fast food without getting sick.
I do go out to eat, but only at places that are privately owned. Corporate food is awful.
Agree. You cant wait 20 minutes to eat fries that are supposed to be piping hot. As much as I hate fast food national chains, McDonalds fries are a gold standard
Great ... now one can get diabetes cusine delivered to the doorstep with the click of a button and never even have to lift one’s butt off the couch except to answer the doorbell and not even that if one has kids ...
Perhaps the answer is a FOOD TRUCK. Cook the food in transit so that it comes of the grill or out of the fryer when you get to the customer’s front door.
How this would work, not up to me to solve, but unless they can figure it out it will not work.
“Taco Bell can be OK”
Inedible in my opinion because of the MASSIVE salt content. To me the only flavor I taste in Taco Bell is salt, salt, salt ...
“I understand that Taco Bell winds up winning the Franchise Wars.”
at least in the movies ...
Figures with bikes. I like it. I’d like to have that job.
