Democrats have spent weeks making the case that the Russia-Trump probes need to continue, piling on demands for more witnesses and documents. So desperate is the left to keep this Trump cudgel to hand that Senate Intelligence Committee Democrats have moved toward neo- McCarthyism.
If that sounds hyperbolic, consider an email recently disclosed by the Young Turks Network, a progressive YouTube news channel. It’s dated Dec. 19, 2017, and its author is April Doss, senior counsel for the committee’s Democrats, including Vice Chairman Mark Warner.

I am glad to see that the gubmint school system has failed in its indoctrination attempts. McCarthy may not have been a very nice man and drank to much, but his basic assertion that the State Department and other government agencies were riddled with communist traitors. If not for Richard Nixon getting Alger Hiss and Joe McCarthy you and I would have been sent to a Gulag in North Dakota a long time ago.
The McCarthyism thing aside, the Republicans in Congress need to give this witch hunt a deadline, no more than 60 days out (preferably 30). The deadline is “either come up with some real evidence of Russian collusion or we cut the money and end the authorization.”
If there was real evidence, there would be indictments by now.
Yes, I know. You all want it shut down last week. But that’s not how the game is played. Give them notice, then shut it down. There’s no harm in waiting an extra 30 days for something they will never have anyway and we win the PR war.

I think you are correct that the name McCarthy has been far too abused and degraded over the years - a disgraceful development but that’s reality i guess.
I would love to see a great American historian write a new life on McCarthy and begin the fight back to restore his rightful status as a hero. Perhaps Newt has time on his hands to do this ?
So far, the Dems and all the Obama embeds have not run such a campaign to discredit and smear Trump.

I suppose one COULD argue the tactic is similar (i.e., the constant smear job). The big difference is McCarthy was 100% right and the charges against Trump are 100% false and ginned up by his Democrat Party enemies.
That said, Strassel is working within the present MSM Revisionist History Narrative, in which McCarthyism is a strongly negative charge against the Democrats.
She should know her history better and have chosen a better analogy, but she IS Media.
He was a Republican senator from Wisconsin.
