R.I. (WPRI) – Rhode Island is now just 157 residents away from losing one of its two seats in the U.S. House, which would give the state a single vote there for the first time since George Washington was president, according to an analysis of newly released population data.

Kimball Brace, the reapportionment expert who has been involved in drawing legislative and congressional districts in Rhode Island since the early 1980s, ran the numbers Wednesday after the U.S. Census Bureau announced Rhode Island had added about 2,000 residents between July 2016 and July 2017.

Only Red State to lose a seat is WVA. Blue States lose 5 seats.

That would take effect after the next redistricting round in 2022 and show up for the 2024 and 2028 presidential elections.

Of course no state would lose House seats if the size of the House was increased.

If you really want to watch liberals’ heads explode (and I do) just announce legislation that prevents counting illegal aliens for determining the number of representatives a state gets.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see New Jersey added to the list of states losing a House seat. Most states lose seats because their population is growing very slowly compared to other states. There are counties in New Jersey that have actually lost population since 2010.

Most of the people in the northeast states are used to losing. Been that way for decades,so nothing is surprising to them any longer. I’m still in NY to be a pain in the behind of Emperor Cuomo.

Michigan and Pennsylvania are much more "red" than you'd think.

Michigan has a Republican governor, a Republican-controlled legislature, and a 9-5 GOP edge in its House delegation. PA usually elects Democrats in statewide races, but the GOP controls their state legislature and I believe there is a 12-5 split in their House delegation in favor of the GOP (with one vacant seat).

RI’s Congressmembers are both Commie REDS.

You mean all four, don't you? Of course the same is true of New Hampshire. But that's thanks to "same day registration"...which the Rats use to bring busloads in from Massachusetts on Election Day.

but reapportionment formula to assign #1 to 385 ( 435 -50 each gets one) means NJ not predicted to lose a seat compared to other states.

The method of equal proportions

Montana use to have 2 seats. It’d be tough to find RI were it within Mont.

Well, think of how many residents are going to leave now that their deduction for the excessive state income taxes has been scaled back. This will be fun to watch.

It’s just so many voted with their feet. My folks “voted with their feet” back in 1974 exiting NYC.

Yes, all 4, as with NH. The GOP would be better off having all 6 New England states merge into 1 (especially since they only have 1 Congressmember and 1 Senator, both from Maine, and losing Collins would be no loss).

Oregon is already badly overrepresented with Dems for over 4 decades. A 4D-1R delegation should really be 3R-2D. Unless they intend to divvy up Portlandia into the 6th seat and split it 3-4 ways, one of those seats will have to trend the GOP’s way.
